Default Recording to DVD

I am really starting to get frustrated. Tonight I was recording the Nashville/Calgary game to a DVD. Anyways, I'm checking the playback and there are parts of the game missing completely and moments where the disc seems to freeze up. Say what you want about VHS but when you stuck a tape in the Video recorder you at least knew that it would record OK. With blank DVD's it seems every 3rd or 4th one is a crappy undependable disc. Does anyone else have this problem?

I used to; until I stopped using cheap media. Now I only use Ri-Data from Memory Express.

What media are you using?

I've been using Memorex and Fujifilm. Are they not very good?

I've used Memorex before without problems. Haven't tried Fujifilm though.

Poor man's test for good media is how dark of a purple the writing surface is. A store bought DVD has pysical grooves for the laser to bounce up and down upon. A DVD-R uses dye to make the "groves" up. The darker the dye the better the contrast.

What brand of DVD recorder is it?

It is a Cyberhome DVD recorder. Not a real expensive outfit (payed $99 for it, I think) so that could be the problem only thing is sometimes it works fine, other times, not so much.

I've recently purchased a DVD recorder and have used it a couple times. The first time, for whatever reason, I set it to record 4 hours (games should take 3 hr MAX), and the quality wasn't very good. The DVD would pause for a second or two during playback. But since then, I've set it to record at 3 hour length, and works great. Not quite the original broadcast quality, but pretty good.

I'm using a Panasonic that I got for half price (open box). Reg was $250. DVD's are a stack of 100 Kodak's for $25. Not exactly expensive, and they seem to work great. They are only 4X recording speed, which matters not in this case.

I have a Toshiba DVD recorder, and in the manual it recommends using Verbatim and Maxell DVD-Rs. I've tried other brands but those ones have given me the best results so far (8 months).
