Hopefully it's usable for soccer as well, and helps Canada out in building that sport (as well as getting another facility to host international events).

Quite bold by Asper...he's throwing the moon to the City Council as part of his entire proposal to take the team over from the "Community".

As for soccer, it would of course have to be grass, which is a lot more costly, and, just like Edmonton, a lot more brutal come October/Nov for football.

I'd be surprised to see this get approved.

As for McMahon, not quite the same scope, given Aspers other plans to take ove all part of the team.

I've been to Commenwealth, and I was never blown away by being that much more fan friendly then Commenwealth.

For an outdoor stadium that gets used 6 months of the year, McMahon is adequate. It would be nice to have concerts etc there sure, but where are you going to put any new stadim in Calgary, other then a dome, tat you'll be able to have outdoor concerts and be accessible by transit and current infrastructure?

As for football, I don't think McMahon itself is really preventing more people from coming to football games, other then the weather.

Given the CFL and Calgary Stampeders ticket price point and revenue stream, I think a 20-30% increase by the owners in ticket prices to help pay for a new stadium (not the case with the Flames, as other factors would absorb some of those cost increases), would put off a lot more people who enjoy the current relativley inexpensive afternoon going to a football game.

That all said, if the Saddledome goes in the next 6 years, always thought it would be interesting if there was a domed Stadium on the Stampede Grounds for the Stamps, and then the ability for larger concerts. But selling two new stadiums with any sot of public $ (if even 10%) would not fly.

I disagree, McMahon is not adaquate, it's garbage. And something to be ashamed of. The concourse is too small, the bathroom capacity is completely inappropriate. The sound system is poor by 80's standards, the suites are about 30 rows too high, the red and white club is way to far away from the field and the teams facilities are suitable for a Junior Football team.

For a facility that sits empty to paying events 330+ (15 Stamp games, 10-15 Dino games) days a year, not sure how much owners can justify a return of the $100+ million investment on a new outdoor stadium.

Combined with that, as I said, when I don't think that, as ashamed as you may be of it, that the physical facility is preventing any significant numbers of people from attending Stampeders games.

As I have also said, I have been to Commenwealth with its had 40K people, and I found it just as cramped in the washrooms and the concourse.

Then don't go. McMahon is fine. There will be upgrades done to washroom facilities and the concourse. It's a great place to watch a football game from any seat in the house, and has a lot of history.

The Winnipeg stadium looks beautiful though. If they go through with it hopefully private ownership works well for them.

Isn't this pretty much the case with every city though? sure would be nice if we could get rid of the ninnies complaining about noise, and get more concerts in the place.

Nevertheless, I think a game at McMahon is still a great experience on a warm summer afternoon. The only thing that always bothered me is the seats not having any backs (atleast up in the cheap seats where i went). that actually HAS prevented me from going to a game before.

That wouldnt be a problem with a new stadium, as there is no chance the city lets them build one in a residential area. The new one would be away from the ninnies.

I THINK FIFA has allowed some types of Field Turf to be used.

In fact the field Hamiton plays on is FIFA approved.

I don't. I cancelled my tickets this year. I'd rather a trip to a NFL game than CFL seasons.

Last year, it was so cramped at the playoff game that people were using the side of the building and/or the parking lot as a bathroom.

I realized it won't get used much, but it could be better utilized. The R#W club could be turned from a stuffy boring buffet room to a multilevel facility up at the end of the end zone, concernts could be scheduled and other things could be looked at as well if a efficient covering could be put in similar to Wpg's idea.

It is a dump, the only reason Stamp fans don't think its a dump is because they don't know any better. Facilities for summer sports in general are embarrasing accross the country.

Speak for yourself. I've been to Commonwealth, Percival Molson and the Rogers center as well as a Seahawks game at Qwest field.

People use the parking lot as a bathroom during any game. And that behavious isn't exclusive to Calgary.

McMahon isn't a dump. It's old, and outdated, but that doesn't make it a dump. It can use some upgradesm which are coming including bathroom facilities among others.

Truth is we're never going to have a stadium like Qwest. I go to the stadium to watch football games. I sit in my seats in section Q and have a blast. So do all my friends, and so do the 35,000 others in attendance.

Where would they get the money from? I mean, the Asper plan had govenment kicking in a total of $80 million, and I think they'll have a hard time accepting that. BOG would probably want even more from the government.

Are they hoping for an NFL team? Look at the top view...midfield is the 50 yd line, there is no 55yd line, and 10 yd endzones, not 25.
