Plus Hamilton has 2 years left until he's a UFA, while Hanifin and Lindholm have 5 years left each!

Hopefully this makes for an interesting regular season. Canucks with some luck and good health could be in the mix for top 3.

Makes Virtanen expendable. Could be a cheap pick up with potential upside.

Mmmmmm. No.
Good luck and good health probably gets the Canucks only as far as the playoffs.

Did Calgary, Vegas, and San Jose call in sick for the entire season?

Ferland's certainly the type of player you hate to play against. Good pickup for Vancouver.

Good move by the Canucks...this will haunt the Flames for years.

If that was the starting point for negotiations from Ferkland's camp, then I don't blame them for telling him to go pound sand.
That was not a realistic strarting point for good faith negotiations. If he came with that number, Carolina would have had to counter with a $1 miilion AAV just to hope to land somewhere in the middle by the end of it. Which is where the market dictated he belongs.
It's easy to see why they couldn't negotiate with Ferkland. Not to dismiss the the entire point you made, but I can't blame them here. Assuming the information is true.

I think Carolina, knowing the medical synopsis from his injuries this year, and no way would they offer him a 4 year commitment.
And on top of that, they saw first hand the streakiness of his production in playoffs.
As has been mentioned, he’s not far away from reaching the magic number of concussions where the doctor won’t let him play, and they’ll come easier than they have before. Upper body injuries March 15th then another April 15th, which kept him out almost a month during the playoffs.

Yes because the Flames had a horrible season without him in their lineup. Reminds me of the whiners that said the Sven Baertschi trade was a mistake and would haunt the Flames. Stocking up on ex-Flames has not paid large dividends for the Canucks.

I don't think so. This isn't the same Ferland from a few years ago. He's still a decent player who plays with an edge, but he won't be running into Flames like he did Bieska, he's just not cut out to do that game in, game out anymore.
He'll be physical, he'll put up some points, but that contract length is too long. I'm glad he got a huge pay day, but he won't haunt the Flames for years.

Good addition for the Nucks although that term is very risky. I'm still not sure what Benning's strategy is though. He has been doubling down on trades and FA in an attempt to make the playoffs but that roster is still lucky to be a bubble team.

However, if we didn't trade away Ferland, we most likely don't sign Neal to replace his goal scoring.

If the requirement to make the trade happen was Ferland then it was still totally worth it Neal and all. Flames got two younger cost controlled cornerstone players for one. Every team has some bad contracts on their roster.

Now that he is the enemy, I can't wait to see Gio light him up with a huge open ice hit.

Hope he can stay healthy. Nice to see him cash in, with his concussion issues.
