Damn. So close, eh?
Anyway, Keith Tkachuk's about to win the Cup, too, which means Matthew will be seeing the Cup hoisted by his dad at their home a few times this summer. He may even show up in Robert Thomas' Cup party. Lucky Chucky, I guess?

tough break for the Bruins... and if i were a Bruins fan, i am sure i'd be pretty choked...totally understand that reaction as a fan.
but i am cheering on the Blues... so they need to gather an move on, just like the Blues did when the SJS had that hand pass that ended the OT game.
that said, by all means, let that bad break through the Bruins off their game.

The physicality of this series and the battle makes it worth watching. Really having trouble cheering for either team.
I am trying really hard to cheer for the Blues. Never won a cup, Berube as a coach, O'Reilly is a beauty. And I can't stand looking at Marchand.
Yet something about the Blues just leaves a bad taste..... Multiple borderline high hits (Barbashev, Blais), Steve Ott on their bench, and I loathe Perron on a Bieksa/Kesler level. He has been on Anaheim, Edmonton and Vegas always being a rat. Hate that guy.
That non-call tonight was horse****. I can't remember this many blatant ref screw-ups in a playoffs ever.

The refs simply put the whistles away, just like the old days. I don’t blame them, when refs tried to make calls in the first round/second round, they booted them from the playoffs. Really, that was the mistake by the NHL, from then on you could see they were gun shy about calling penalties.
I don’t blame the refs at all, this is all on Gary Bettman. Those team apologies and all that were a complete circus show.

Berube and Bouwmeester are the only ones who are guaranteed to get their names on the Cup.
MacInnis has the role of Senior Advisor to the General Manager. That may or may not be enough to get his name on the Cup. The team has 18 owners. If each owner gets their name on the Cup, that will limit how many other people can. There is a 52 name limit.
Teams pretty much have free rein over who can get rings, so there will probably be a few guys who get rings without getting their names added to the Cup.
Tkaczuk is an Assistant Coach for the Blues' AHL affiliate in San Antonio. He won't likely get a Cup ring (although, I guess the team could give one to anyone they wanted). He definitely won't get his name on the Cup.
With 13 NHL games played this season, Butler will likely get a ring, but won't qualify to get his name on the Cup.
Brett Hull is a Blues Ambassador, whatever that means, so he'll also likely get a ring.
While only the father of a Flame, Keith Tkachuk is a scout for the Blues, so he should also get a ring and his day with the Cup. Hopefully, being witness to everything going on in his home town will be a major motivator for Matthew next season.

Don't care for Boston, but that was bad.
Everyone pretty much stops playing for a moment, and probably hesitate from their assignments thinking the whistle is coming, it doesn't, then the B's are suddenly susceptible and it goes in.
Put away whistles on the borderline stuff in these game yes, but that was textbook. Just call it, man. Worst case scenario right there, as the game is decided on a questionable play.
This is pretty much why I'm not the fan I used to be. It's all too inconsistent, and at the most important times and most important plays...they #### it up.

That's simply not correct. When the refs made calls based based on the result of the play (player hurt) rather than the actual play itself that led up to the player getting hurt they got booted for good reason as that cost a team from advancing to the 2nd round of the playoffs. As Brian Burke correctly said it was one of the worst calls in the history of the NHL playoffs. Putting the whistles away is not a reaction to the first two rounds and simply what the officials have always referred to on the big stage which is game management. I'm glad that officiating has been the major discussion of these playoffs as IMO it's the worst part of the game. Officials need to be taught to stop managing the game and simply calling the game by the rule book. There's statistical evidence that shows that officials try too hard to manage the game;
https://www.tsn.ca/game-management-a...sues-1.1307201
The NFL has one instance in a big game where officials let them play and it results in major replay changes meanwhile it's something the NHL has simply turned a blind eye to forever. I would much rather lose a game where an official called a penalty at a critical juncture of a game that even if wishy washy falls under the definition of a penalty than lose a game on a non-call like last night where a team basically was allowed to cheat by taking a player out of the play illegally.

Pretty incredible.
January 2nd, dead last in the NHL.
June 7th, one win away from capturing their 1st Stanley Cup.
Remember when they were supposedly contemplating trading Pietrangelo, Tarasenko, Schenn, etc...?

Last time the Bruins won the cup they were down 3-2 in the series. Not over yet.

I think those things could have happened had the 2nd half of the season played out differently but the coaching change and goaltending change helped correct the path of the team. It's pretty obvious (maybe not to Craig Button) that when a team with talent struggles really badly that replacing the head coach should be done before you start shipping out big name players and blowing things up as it's not likely this team even makes the playoffs had Mike Yeo been given the rest of the season to figure things out.

Tyler Wotherspoon is also in that organization - though not in line for a ring or anything.
Geez....Chris Butler, I was so surprised that guy is still playing I had to look it up.

Upon further review, still thinking this will be the first year the Conn Smythe Trophy will be awarded to a representative from the NHL officials.

Clearly Yeo had a problem with him. Bouwmeester has always been a good player even if he didn't realize what most thought his potential was, but the clash between him and Yeo was palpable.
It happens sometimes...some coaches just don't like certain players for whatever reason, and the players on ice performance is what suffers the most usually.
Look in our own back yard here, though not as blatant i dont believe, and the relationship between Frolik and Peters. For whatever reason, Peters certainly did not use Fro as he should and has been for most of his career. In this case Frolik powered through it for the most part, but clearly there was a rift there for some unknown reason.
These are all different people with different personalities and biases...and at times don't mix.

The Blues also regularly run over opposition players from behind. Im surprised to find myself saying it, but Boston is the cleaner team.
