Don't live in Calgary anymore, but if you like Chinese food I'm pretty sure you'll find at least a couple restaurants still open (and likely pretty crowded) past midnight.
Golden Nugget (name might be incorrect) on Centre Street and 4th (I think?) and Calgary Court would be my guesses.

Ooooooh. I have a bit of an interest on 24 hour stuff.
Some 24 hour stuff:
- Many of the World Gym locations, including the one on Macleod are open 24 hours
- IGA in Lakeview as 24 hours, but I hear that's been changed of late
- 24 hour car wash on Macleod at around 45th (I think)
- Husky House (of course)
- the Home Depot on Macleod used to be open 24 hours. You could go in there at 3 am and be the only guy in that HUGE store.

You are pretty much out of luck when it comes to 24 hr services and food in Calgary compared to other centres. Always been behind the times, not just since the labor shortage. Things have always shut down early in this city for as long as i can remember. Kind of dissapointing to say the least.

On a similar note...
I went to McDicks in Shawnessy last week for my bi-annual fix and waited for 10 mins in the dive thru line with 3 cars infront of me. I was handed my bag finally and was told "here are your burgers and fries". I drove away and looked in the bag appaled to see that there were infact no fries. Went inside to see about 6 or 7 13 year olds running the place. Not kidding. No one working there could vote. At the counter there was a woman complaining that her fries were cold and 2 guys that were waiting for food for a LONG time with me joining them at the side. When I told the kid he actually CHECKED my bag but not the reciept. I got no napkins, no straw, no ketchup, and no tray. It was awesome. They were all running around, yelling, and bumping into each other. I laughed all the way home, ate my burger and spent the rest of the night on the toilette.
You guys should check it out if your ever in the neighborhood.

CPU! Canadian Pizza Unlimited is usually open until around 1 am and usually has hot fresh slices. So good, and located in Deer Run as well as right beside Outlaws on Macleod

Calgary is really a sad place. Everything aside from Wal-Mart is practically closed at 9PM and there's nothing to do and nowhere to go.

Well, what ae businesses going to do? Pay $15/hour or more to some high school kids to stay open for the possible 1-2% of business that would roll in late? Businesses don't want to operate at a loss. These are the down sides of the boom.

do you REALLY want to know what the disgruntled kids working at the pizza place on new years eve did to that pizza? and then what the driver did on the way over?

There is truth to that, however in Calgary even before the boom, there was little or any businesses open late at all. Compared to other similar populated or larger centers, this city has always been lacking with late night services or activities.
Late night business has never been something the citizens of this city have ever had. The boom hasnt made it any worse than it already was, with respect to late night hours, its still the same as it always has been, limited and crappy.

I know the one in North Hill Centre (right off of 16 ave, west of SAIT) is open 24 hours as well...it's not much but when I get off at work in the morning and I'm missing something minor it does the trick.
