I don't understand why we would gut our 107 pt roster. Do you guys not want to win?
Lets give these horses more then one season to prove what they have before thinking about even blowing it up. We're not Edmonton.

Meanwhile, you anchor guys like Sam Bennett to Neal and Janko, only giving him a shot with real talent in the final do or die game as if he's magically going to just have that chemistry and turn the series around.

I’m worried about his work ethic and or his prone to injuries.

That 107 pts was largely thanks to Rittich catching fire during the first half of the season. That, combined with a historically weak western conference, and the Sharks running into key injuries, is why the Flames finished 1st.

I’m afraid that Elliott’s gaffes two years ago fooled some of the players into thinking they had the playoffs figured out. No offense against Anaheim then and none against Colorado now.

Did you see what it would have cost to get him? Top d prospect plus more and then we would have lost him after season because he would get his massive contract with Vegas. Tre made the right decision cause cost was too high for pure rental.

Rittich didn't score those goals, sure he helped the team win games but this roster has proven to be a deadly team.
I don't see why we would even consider trading Mony/Johnny this summer unless we're getting back a game changer.

Well if your basing it off of just points , you just out argued yourself.
Flames just lost 4 straight to a team that just got in with 2 games left . Tampa got swept by a team that just got in by a game left.
I'd like to see Brodie, Frolik, Jankowski gone at least next year. Pipedream would be Neal to at the deadline if he can't get back on track.

In 20 career Playoff games, Gaudreau has 2 goals + 2 assists for 4 points 5v5.
In 20 career Playoff games, Monahan has 3 goals + 0 assists for 3 points 5v5.
That is like... really, really, really bad.
Oof.

I agree with everything except Rittich. Rittich has starter potential.

Some other things I’m thinking about:
1. Weren’t the Flames decidedly mediocre against playoff teams all season while dominating those not in the playoffs?
2. I wonder what the drop-off was for the first line in production against playoff teams during the regular season?
Kind of makes sense that we were blown out of the water when a playoff team played playoff hockey against us... seems we only have one gear.

Yes. The flames were barely above .500 against playoff teams.

This series is a real eye opener for the team, management and the fans. I can't help but think back to that 1st game we played against Tampa Bay this year that ended 5-4 (I think). It was an absolutely incredible game and really highlighted the speed and pure skill of the top two teams in the league. And low and behold, both of these teams were swiftly eliminated in the playoffs.
Clearly there is something missing. If you had asked me last year, I would say it's a guy like Neal. I just don't know. So disappointed.

Not worried about his work ethic BUT teams have just figured him out. He has his spot in the slot he can score and teams can shut that down. Now players like Ovi, Sid,Laine etc etc all have their "spot" they score on the regular but they move out and out side of the slot where they can sneak away from defenders. Monahan can easily be covered better where he scores. This is what happened to Neal this year aswell.

I personally think as much as this was a lesson for the players, this was also learning experience for Treliving. I think he will realize that his roster isn't built for playoffs and certain tweaks are needed. He definitely needs to put better player(s) with Johnny and hopefully, some of the younger players grow from this as well. As much as I like Mony, clearly he has a tendency to break down as the season goes on, and I hope he can be packaged with D man to find the upgrade at centre. Tre is a wizard when it comes to offseason trades, let's hope he has some magic left. This team is not far off based on this season.

Flames need a new #1 center. Monahan didn’t just disappear this post season, he was gone after the All Star break. When tight checking happens, this guy is gone. Completely invisible for 3 months.
Trade TJ Brodie. Too many blunders with the puck and in front of the net. Final year of his contract, get something for the asset.
Lastly, trade James Neal for anything. Even a lateral trade will do. Guy was a total disaster this season from the first day onwards.

I cannot agree more. The Flames looked 4 steps behind in nearly every situation all series.

Hard to do since it was based around Frolik and he said no.
