Trudeau will be a private citizen by December, I think. I mean, I’ve been wrong about these things before but that is my gut feeling. I doubt Kenney is shaking in his boots over a threat from a probable lame duck prime minister in a press conference.

And I don’t say that as a Kenney fan in the slightest.

For a second I thought actual shots were fired. Not proverbial!

I bet Trudeau gets re-elected. Just because Alberta hates him doesn't mean the rest of the country does.

I don’t hate him, really. Though I was never in his fan club. I just think the recent scandals around his treatment of Jody Wilson-Raybould have really damaged him and rightly so. There are things you just can’t and shouldn’t tolerate in elected leaders.

The amount that people will put up with in order to maintain their ideological position would amaze you.

Such as collusion, corruption, backwards policies on LGBTQ rights, and gigantic promises on bringing back the good ol' days of the O+G economy....

...paging Kenney...

Yes! Get out and vote!!

Random anecdote: I manage a team of 12 people and 6 did the vote anywhere advance voting. 3 of those didn't vote in the last provincial election due to lineups on election day after work.

The water carrying you read on twitter and facebook, and in online comment sections, is truly disgusting. There are a surprising number people who appear to consider it their duty to effectively parrot LPC talking points. Fortunately, I very rarely scroll down. I really have to recommend getting off twitter as soon as possible if you're on it.

Scheer has the same chance of winning as Notley. So 0% chance.

you're correct and that's why I think the Liberals be re-elected.
I'm sure of it every time I read comments on any tweet critical of the liberals or Trudeau.

I never got on Twitter. I am one of those geniuses who looked at the format and went “nah, that’ll never catch on.”

Liberals win when they get people out to vote. Conservatives pretty much get the same turnout every election.

Aboriginal vote has gone to #### for Trudeau. No weed, no electoral reform, all the feminist rah rah has no energy to it, and looks like we're heading into a recession with Trudeau fumbling some major trade deals.

Their base votes aren't going anywhere but historically speaking anyone that doesn't vote helps Conservatives.

I only follow sports people now and unfollow anyone who mentions politics. Its not bad that way, find lots of interesting articles to read and such.

OT but why is the voting process so complex?
I understand that we need to maintain the idea of a secret ballot but it is all of the needless steps which cause the 2 hour line ups in the evening.

Why isn't it just:
1. Give the guy at the desk your voting card
2. He gives you a folded ballot and a pencil
3. You make a mark and put it in the box and put the pencil down.
4. Scrutineer watches you to make sure you didn't try any funny business.

I don't see the value of walking across a gym to a screen then walking back, putting it in some giant envelope and letting it fall.

Because in some countries, people seeing you vote = vote for the party who payed off the poll staff or face targeted persecution for you and your family.

Incorrect.

Notley/NDP were never ahead of the UCP in polling. In fact have trailed badly since its inception pretty much.

Trudeau/Liberals are behind the PC's pretty solidly now.

Long long way to election time, but to suggest there is 0% chance Scheer cannot win in October is patently and totally false, and completely made up in your very narrow scope of political views.

These are just the facts, not some rah rah cheerleading shake those pom pom talking points/opinions either.

not sure how to imbed but in April 2 as part of discussion you followed up with -

"Human rights will always come before economic prosperity for me. It's the fundamental core of why we exist and do things freely, and why we are privileged to enjoy that. Even playing field for all. Worse comes to worse you just live minimalist, learn how to be frugal, or move elsewhere for economic opportunity, at least in my opinion."

thought things like this are easy for you to say as you've commented you're doing quite well for yourself.

not saying people should be denied human rights, that's not where I'm coming from.

also matters what human rights you're referring to. some people on this site have stated a decent living wage is a human right, as one example.

but I can't give any more than I already am. the loss of much income in my family and the increase in the cost of everything has my family at the end of a thin rope.

economic prosperity is at the forefront of my existence right now. I do believe in human rights but it's hard to rage against anyone when you worry every single day about losing your house or even putting healthy food on the table, or something as simple as your kid asking why the only stores we seem to go to are the dollar store or a thrift shop.

the answer to helping the disadvantaged can't be taking more from people who may not have more to give. doesn't help that you think the answer is to be more frugal or just move.

anyway, after all that I will say that I did NOT vote UCP.

i know this was a question yesterday...just saw this explanation as to advanced ballot counting.

Under the Election Act, ballot boxes cannot be opened prior to the close of polls on Election Night. The Advance Poll ballots cast from within your electoral division will be counted on Election Night. (1/3)

The count of the Advance Poll ballots from outside of your electoral division will start the following day, as all Election Officers and Elections Alberta will be focused on getting polls reporting Election Night. (2/3)

With 223,000 ballots to sort and count, to ensure that the ballots cast are attributed to the correct electoral division, the count of those ballots will take several days. (3/3)

You would think they could have a mini envelope you put your ballot in with the riding on it so they could sort ahead of time, then count them election night at a central facility.

Yeah I was under the impression that if you advance voted in your own riding that those votes would be counted on election day.

People (presumably brain-dead idiots) on twitter had suggested pre-counting the advance votes but I'm glad that they don't. This way might build in a little drama for the week if there are a few ridings that are close.
