Derek Ryan has the best faceoff % in the league of players who took over 100 draws.
There's less than a minute left in a 0-0 first period and you want to win that draw, control the puck, not give up a late back breaker.

I’m totally OK with a boring first period. We don’t have a particularly experienced playoff lineup. Keep things simple for the first 20 minutes. Let the boys find their groove.

Backlund is no slouch either, but fine, send him out for the draw then. I'd just really like to see, in a period where the momentum gradually shifted towards the Avs, an attempt to take advantage of an opportunity like that one. Get something positive going before the end of the period. Dont play scared.

I don't think its playing scared. I think he's being using that strategy in the dot all season for success.

Yup. Avs had no answer for 3M or the Benny/Neal line. Just gotta try and stay out of the box, and hopefully we'll pot a couple.
