Icon30 Panthers fire Head Coach Boughner. Joel Quenneville hired.

Friedman speculated that Alain Vignault may be the front runner for the job a week ago but Dale Tallon's quote about stanley cup pedigree probably means they will take a run at Quenneville.

There is a real sense today that the process between FLA and Joel Quenneville is much further along than many of us realized. It’s not a done deal, but it’s close. It would not be a surprise if this process closes in the near future.

Could they even afford AV or Coach Q?

wouldn't surprise me. Weren't they rumoured to be interested in key UFAs like Bobrovsky and Panarin as well? Might as well try to get a big name coach too if Viola is willing to spend.

They kind of had to fire him as it's clear they underachieved in a similar manner to the Flames under Gulutzan.

They're just a Gallant and a Marchessault away from the playoffs.

With the long history between Tallon and Quenville, and if they are serious about adding the Russians, I wouldn't be surprised if Q ends up in Florida.

When your season winds up more Alfred than Ken I guess that's to be expected.

They fit his criteria if he can pay them.

They are a team with talent and assets and I can see them making playoff noise in the near future.

Oh. And low taxes. That too.

It goes both ways up there though. The edict to subtly lay blame is often issued, as you saw most recently with Chia in a 2 week media campaign in advance of his firing.

Default Panthers fire Head Coach Boughner. Friedman: Hiring of Quenneville is close to done.

Awesome news.

Boughner couldn’t get anyone other than Barkov to play defense. The team was frighteningly inconsistent in 2 straight seasons. There’s real talent on this roster that a more seasoned head coach could utilize more effectively. At any rate, Boughner wasn’t getting the job done, so a change was needed.

that's a shame; i like Boughner and think he's a good coach... i think he'll end up following a trajectory like Gallant did

Quenneville would be an excellent hire and it would make sense to fire Boughner if they had a hire like Quenneville ready to go

Damn, I really like that Florida team with Coach Q and if they can wrangle the Russians. I don't know if anyone would have a better top-6 up front than Barkov, Panarin, Huberdeau, Trocheck, Hoffman, and Dadonov.
