I hope they can win in 5 and shut up all the 'First round exit'
'Flames aren't built for playoffs' crap I see from other fans.

Remember that 3rd period where they battled back and scored 5 goals to beat these guys? You could practically hear the gong in the background watching the Avs try to defend a motivated Flames attack.

Not saying the Flames will steamroll them, but the Avs are gonna need some luck to hang in this one.

Well that almost seals it. Like a 4% chance Colorado pass Dallas?

Here's to hoping Colorado does not somehow leapfrog Dallas.

Bring on whoever. I have faith in these guys. We're top seed for a reason. And they aren't for a reason as well.

I love the positive perspective. However, it is tough to ignore that out of the possible 6 points against the Stars this season, Calgary managed 1.

Contrary to all 6 against Colorado.

I just dont think the flames got up to play most of those Dallas games. Wether that's due to fatigue or just not having much of a rivalry with the team at the other end. And they seemed to play us during our dry stretches.

I think with playoffs stakes on the line the flames wouldn't half ass muffins on the net like they did in most of the Dallas games. The stars were outplayed possessionally in every one of those games as well. If that continued, I don't see Dallas rattling off four 1-0/2-1 games. Maybe two early on before the flames adjusted. We'd have to put up a historically low shooting percentage and PDO in a series if that actually happened.

there are too many negative Nelly's on here. We are at the top of the standings for a reason. There is no way we won't have a chance against any team in the West. Looks like round 1 will be the Avs, bring it on. This team has so much depth, more than most team have ever had. Smith has been solid the last few weeks. I am really not worried about losing in the first round, this team is ready to elevate to that next level. They may not win the cup this year, but it will be a long run. A great way to learn about what it takes for this young group.

Wow, it's totally plausible for Dallas to be our first round opponent. That would really suck....

Stars have more wins and their last two games are against the Wild and Hawks who are both preparing for garbage bag day. I will say if you are the Stars management and coaches would you be thinking about the Flames match-up being much more favorable than the Jets? Not sure as they handily won the season series against the Jets as well but they have totally owned the Flames for years now.

If the Stars finish in the 2nd WC (meaning they haven't picked up even one point in two games against non PO teams and the Avs beat SJ) I say they tanked to Calgary and Peters better be putting that on a bulletin board.

Or they rested players the same way the Flames did.

Why would they rest players when they are still jockeying for position?

They're arguing about how Stars could rest or tank in order to play Calgary by choice. So they would rest so that they could jockey for the position they want.

That's why I said tank. And that's why Peters would put it on the bulletin board.

While I personally don't think Dallas is the best match for Calgary, I'm not afraid of them and I doubt the Flames are either. Over a few games the Stars have collected some close (some lucky) wins. Over a 7 game series? Different story I'm sure.

That all being said, it will probably be Colorado which is much better for travel and an all around better match up.

I’m down with this. It’s really tough to beat a team 8x in one season, especially a good team. This works against the Flames the matchup vs the Avs as well. I get that the Stars would go into a series vs Cgy with more confidence than a typical 8 seed, but that confidence could well be erased in 1 game (maybe even 1 period).

The Flames path takes the Stars to San Jose or Vegas in round 2 and I am not sure that would be the desired road for a wildcard team.

Who needs bulletin board material for the playoffs? The Flames will be amped up enough as it is as they’ve been thinking playoffs for weeks now.

This is going to be fun.

They don't but if Dallas rests guys and tanks to play us as a coach you definitely use that as bulletin board material. I don't think Dallas will be dumb enough to do that though, they also play well against the Jets, the road is easier as WC1, and Peters would tell the boys they tanked just because they think we are an easier out and in turn the Flames would destroy Dallas in 4.

Colorado is the hottest team going into the playoffs and getting ridiculous goaltending.
