Looked pretty clean.
The issue is retribution in a nothing game. Doughty being a bitch doesn't help.
Of course you get why he hit him like that, but he didn't have to lay the boom on a player in a vulnerable position.

Hit was clean. Don't know why all the hate for Doughty. He didn't do anything.
In the same way Bennett looked to blow up Doughty, MacDermid blew up Bennett.
If we're gonna dish it, then we gotta be able to take it as well. Just hope Bennett isn't seriously injured.

If there’s an unwritten rule for that, then there’s probably an unwritten rule for not destroying players with 10 seconds left in an 8-5 game, which Bennett did to Simek earlier this season.
It wasn’t a blind side hit, it was right into Bennett’s chest. I hope he’s okay and it sucks to see that but that was a clean hit.

I'm probably in the minority here but knowing what we know about concussions I don't believe there is a place for that play in hockey (or pro sports) anymore. Maybe the NHL needs a "defenseless player" rule like the NFL? That wasn't a hit to separate a guy from a puck - that was a hit after the puck was gone that has very little impact on the actual game other than a little intimidation and potential long term brain damage.

The superior LA feed does show contact to the head, whereas the SN feed looks less incriminating. Either way, seems a little unnecessary in a game like this.

I think you missed the play that started it all. Doughty almost destroying Valimaki. Nothing happening until that unnecessary hit.
