This would be easier to forgive if he wasn't being paid to cover the team on TV and internet. Even Spector tweets nuggets from inside the Oilers every once in a while.

I don’t agree at all with Love’s opinion regarding Monahan (literally 0%)...but the bullying and harassment towards posters who have a different opinion than the ‘mainstream’ on this board is getting way out of hand...and it has been getting progressively worse.
Diversity of opinion is what stops this forum from being a cringeworthy Oscar-awards-style ‘everything/everyone is awesome’ festival of ignorance.
This bullying happens anytime someone dares to criticize Smith, Brodie, Neal, Monahan or any player. Then when called out, the usual suspects pettifog behind the “am I not allowed to have an opinion too” excuse...which has become embarrassing in its predictability
Bingo, you’ve built something incredible here. I hope you step in and put a stop to this nonsense before you have a forum full of threads where one poster says ‘player x is awesome’ ...with a page of ‘yeah I agree’ responses.

It’s not bullying or harassment. He has an opinion that most people disagree with. Most of the replies to him have used stats to back up their arguments and are posted in a respectful manner. Love continually ignores the facts and evidence to push his narrative that Monahan is a terrible hockey player. When you’re constantly proven wrong but continue to act like the smarter person in the room people are going to run out of patience. He’s bringing this on himself if you ask me.

Love's posts are conjectural, unfounded, and clearly biased. Love only posts about Monahan when he performs poorly. In doing so, said poster is essentially piling on Monahan when he is at his lowest points, and backs up their claims with warped assertions and so-called "facts" presented in a rather smarmy way.

^ sorry, CanadaMatt, I believe that a sycophantic horde is not a concern.
I tried making a case that a goalie who let in 6 one night actually played well, in spite of stats, and, let me assure you, the idea was quite unpopular!
I do definitely agree that Bingo has a great site.
If you are going to make statements that are controversial, even if you believe they are justified, you should expect pushback and dialogue. If they move toward unreasonable, well, sometimes people pick up on that too.

Monahan is a whipping boy to some because all he is good at is scoring goals. If he is not scoring he doesn't bring much else to the team.

He put up some legitimately elite individual expected goals totals earlier in the season and looked great doing it. He was a big part of the best line in the league for 3/4 of the season.
During the most recent stretch, both his statistical and eyetest game has been really ugly to watch. No pace, soft on the puck, giveaways all over the ice, struggles to get even one clean shot off a game. Take him out if he's injured, for all our sakes.
If he's not injured, I don't see why considering trading him for an equivalent centre who can drive his own line and contribute in other ways when the offense is going cold is so blasphemous. I still think ideally we keep him and he gets through this and back to his earlier level of play.

I’m sorry, did you miss the part where a poster called for Love to be banned? It’s like a soccer player raising an imaginary card up to the referee after a foul hoping that his opponent will be booked!
Did you miss the moderator who simply posted ‘word salad’ as a response in totality...or was that also a stat and I’m somehow confused what ‘stats’ are?
Or did you miss when another poster said that Loves opinion was a joke which made ‘him’ a joke.
Perhaps you missed the post on page 2, where he was called a troll ...or even the post on this page where he was referred to as a troll....this was ‘respectful’ was it?
I could go on, but if you re-read the thread from ‘The other point of view’ without assuming your opinion is right, then I think you’ll see things differently.

No I didn’t miss those, but I also haven’t missed the drivel Love has posted about Monahan the last two years either. If he was a new poster I might think you have a point but this has been an ongoing issue with this poster. He only appears during Monahan’s slumps and never has any actual substance to back to his arguments. I think it’s totally fair to criticize Monahan right now, but when he starts saying stuff like “he’s a paper mache 1C” despite all the numbers saying otherwise he’s going to get some blowback.
My opinion on Monahan is not based on assumption, it’s based on the fact that the numbers back up what I see. He’s a 1C in this league, and a damn good one. Sure, he’s not Crosby or McDavid, but nobody claimed he was. People are simply pointing out that he’s not garbage and for whatever reason Love doesn’t want to believe that. He wants to be smarter than everyone else. It’s annoying and it’s been going on here for a while.

Anyone who suggests that trading Monahan is a good idea is foolish, lives in Edmonton, or is foolish and lives in Edmonton. And dumb.

Monahan deserves criticism with his current play. So does Love for his constant rhetoric. Bad poster is bad

this is not something new and happens more often than you think and I'm not saying it's the case but I know that I don't always perform my best at work when other things in my life aren't going well.
and I'm not saying this is the case with Mony but to expect him to just be a robot and turn off his feelings isn't fair.

Exactly. It's ridiculous to assert that serious life situations don't affect "professionals" on the job. Players have gotten personal leave before.
That said, speculating on (not that anyone was) what might be going on off-ice is just about as productive as trying to dig upwards.
