Hopefully not serious. Rest him until playoffs. He's going to be needed.

Based on how timid Bennett played, and the opponent, and the score, and the fact that he missed the last couple games, I suspect it was precautionary

Ryan Pike @RyanNPikeNo updates on Sam Bennett from head coach Bill Peters post-game. Was told by trainer in second intermission that he wouldn't be available in third, but isn't sure extent of issue.

I actually thought the team missed Bennett more than Monahan when they were both out. Hopefully he can be healthy for the playoffs. If that mean shutting him down for a bit, then I'm all for it. Flames are going to need all hands on deck.

What a horrible loss when no one can bring his kind of game to the table.
Who steps up into this role? |

Eh, what's his role again? Hard-nosed guy who can't score? Can we bring back Adrian Aucoin? I mean, this isn't a critical piece, sorry.

What a ridiculous comparison, Bennett brings way more energy and presence than Aucoin ever did, even when he doesn't contribute on the scoresheet. The team often plays lethargically when he's not there.

There, now you have taken the first step on this zen journey. Of course it was a ridiculous comparison, you could mention that Aucoin was a defenseman to cap off.
And yet... I don't doubt that the other players enjoy to have a large, scrappy guy in the lineup, it's always good for team chemistry and confidence. But I don't see Bennett as a critical piece. The hits behind the net, that forecheck to turn the puck over and create a chance? Mangiapane is doing that stuff, that Bennett-y stuff, better than Bennett right now. Hathaway is supposed to be that guy. Bennett is like Tkachuk, only with about 1/2 the toolset.

I don't mind him on the team, not saying anything like that, but the idea that if the flames don't have Bennett they are in some kind of trouble? No way, I don't buy it. Replace him with Neal, you'd notice no difference, and that's the "Bad" Neal we've seen. Replace Bennett with "good" Neal, and I think there's no comparison. Now we just have to see if "good" Neal is still a thing...
