Positive side: Flames CF% is 57.9 the last 4 games, second highest in the league. Their PDO is 90.8, the lowest.

CGY has outshot the opposition 243 to 177 at 5on5. They’ve been outscored 12 to 4. This won’t continue forever.

Teams are playing gross, tight checking, defensively sound hockey and the Flames can’t seem figure it out. We saw a few examples of this early on in the season and it resulted in being shut out. Treliving really should’ve tried to pick up at least 1 heavier player who can dump the puck in, chase it down, win the puck battle and start cycling. Without a reliable player like that, there’s too many one and dones.
Monahan looks just awful right now. Completely unnoticable and when he does try something, it goes awry. He’s been the most disappointing player since the ASG and every other center on this team has seemingly passed him in terms of effectiveness. He’s way too easy to defend right now and it’s hurting his line.

No...not sure I ever said they were though.
My point was it’s fair to talk about their struggles over the last month since the all-star break where they have struggled, not that they were shutting it down for the rest of the season.

They have a 3-4 year window as a contender.
They have been top 4 offensively, top 10 defensively, most of the season.
They have , at this point, 5 players with more than 60 points. The last time that happened was the powerhouse Penguins in 1993.
Their coach , GM and top D are all in strong consideration for major awards.
Gaudreau and Lindholm will get strong support for other awards.
They have 4 very strong young stud D who are 22 or younger.
Their goaltending has been average to below average ( most of the season).
Historically, the team has been to the SCF 3 times, winning once.
This team , IMO, outside of the Cup winning team in 89, is the most talented team ever.
They will learn a lot more about who they are and what it will take to win in the SC playoffs during this losing spell than they will from 7 game winning streaks.
My advice, patience and endurance.
If it was easy, anybody could do it.

And some decent depth for when the inevitable playoff injuries happen.

That 7 game win streak was great for the standings, but terrible for our perception of the team. In that win streak, our top 6 were terrible and they were terrible again tonight. Our bottom 6 haven't been able to squeak out wins in the last 4, but they carried those 7 wins.
Optimism is the only argument that this is a slump, and this slump will end. What a lot of fans want to talk about is whether this team actually has what it takes to do anything in the post-season, and I don't think it's that insane to be a bit anxious about what we're seeing on the ice.
I hope they get their #### together, but how much more if this play do people need to see before we can get on the same page that this is going poorly? I get that Sunday could be a great game and we get back to dominating (esp with our schedule), but the ASB was a while ago now and I haven't thought the Flames were deserving of their #1 spot since the break. If Sunday is the day, I welcome it but this isn't a problem that started tonight.
They showed at the start of the season that they have the skill to score at will, but they've also shown quite frequently in their careers that they're fragile. The worry fans have is that this team doesn't know how to get their mojo back, and SJ is rolling as we sit and wonder.
Optimism is great. But concern for this team is warranted.

He has played 183 games in the two seasons before this. A lot but plenty have played more. I’m just not buying it as an excuse for falling off a cliff the way he has and I just have a hard time seeing him magically bounce back.
I am kind of glad he’s not playing right now or else he would certainly be the target of fans wrath.

I use this forum to let off steam after loses. When they win, I can go to sleep peacefully. Living in Toronto games end here around midnight.
You guys should actually read the recent posts prior. I've given the team credit when they played good and deserved a better fate, I've complained about the shootout since they are the worst in the league at it and I've ripped Smith because he's terrible (does anybody disagree?).
Like I said I call it like I see it.

Concern is fine
Saying the season is done, first round sweep, team is weak ect. is just...well not smart
Game was actually a must win for the Yotes...like season on the line. They left it all out there...Flames didn't

I wonder how much of that is posting in the heat of the moment, and how much is that posters true belief
I can't think that anyone thinks we're truely going to miss the playoffs if you look at the standings, but if you heard the things I screamed at the TV tonight... Johnny should be in the AHL
I think we're holding people to their outbursts a little much by quoting them all night, and not everyone wants to admit they were heated and just double down instead.
That's my guess.

You need to give people some slack. I get it, Im not a fan of hitting the panic button right now either, but the fan base has been burned and crushed so many times before that I think theres hesitation to fully commit especially in the current slide.
Sometimes those that are on the extreme opposite of the sky is falling crowd are equally as eye rolling for those that get caught in middle.

Not really true.
Here are Some more “since the all star break” numbers for the Flames at 5v5:
Corsi For %: 55.6% (1st)
Shots For %: 54.7 (1st)
Scoring Chance For %: 55.3 (1st)
High Danger %: 53.6 (8th)
Shooting Percentage: 7.4% (20th)
Save Percentage: .910 (24th)
I agree the Team is struggling to get to the dirty areas a little bit right now but overall they are still driving play and carrying possession and zone time in their games.
Last year they struggled with scoring all season. This year they’ve shown they can get to those areas and produce and score. I say we let them work out of this slump before writing them off.
And if the top 6 can get going again then look out because the bottom 6 has been fantastic for most of this period since the break.
