That’s because Shannon doesn’t know what he’s talking about.

always tough to parse rumors, but Saravelli is a pretty solid source imo.

i suspect Calgary's offer is still on the table, but they aren't planning to increase it any further and will have other deal(s) ready to be consummated when the time comes to move on

Yup, all these teams have known the Sens price, he hasn’t been traded yet so it would be foolish to think any of the teams rumoured to be in on him are out when the Sens price has been known. I’m really shocked the Sens will be making their decision on Stone on deadline day, seems like they want a bidding war but they could end up with egg on their face. I’m guessing the big hold up is that Stone won’t sign an extension and teams are not gonna unload high end picks and prospects for a guy that could easily be gone by the summer. The Sens are in an awful spot, I do not envy them or their fans

Here’s hoping. I can’t help but see a situation in which any package we offer doesn’t blow up in our face.

Hope treliving is in it to drive up the price and not seriously considering mortgaging the future.

I suspect the Flames have made their offer and it is what it is. Ottawa may get a better deal but it won't be from Calgary.
This sounds like the Flames knew it would be like this all the way along

Any trade invovling Vali Andersson or Kylington should be shut down immediately. Don't trade any of our young D-core. These guys will replace Gio.

There are some people calling Kylington the next Karlsson. I don't see it TBH, I get homerism, but this is just silly IMO.

Yeah, Stone is actually a proven top end NHL star player...former Calder finalist
Our young D are showing signs but nowhere near the top of their peer group

Agreed, Kylington is a move-able piece. If he become a star, so be it. He won't be int he Flames Top 4 as he is behind Vali IMO and if it means acquiring Stone it's worth it.

-edit *signed stone

I mean it’s too early to project him imo but Brodie with more offence is a reasonable homer projection

OK, please name fifteen defensemen under the age of twenty-three in the league who are better. Because Stone is not among the top fifteen forwards in the league. By points scored, he is not even in the top thirty, although I recognize there is more to him than that. To give away five to six years of a high-ceiling D for two months of a winger, however, is crazy.

If any of our young D were in the package to get Stone, they would have to be the whole package to make it an equitable trade, and even then, unless they won the Cup this year, the Flames would be losers of such a trade in the long run.

I don't see him re-signing in Calgary unless Neal and Frolik go the other way. Rittich, Bennett, and especially Tkachuk are going to take up too much of the available cap space.

Flames won’t trade for Stone if they can’t re-sign him. So if they get Stone, it means Treliving thinks he can sign him. Put the Stone as a rental to bed.

This. There is enough confirmations of this that I believe it to be 100% true.

He's probably top-20. Comfortably top-30.

Crosby
Ovechkin
Kucherov
McDavid
Matthews
Kane
MacKinnon
Gaudreau
Marner
Stamkos
Tavares
Bergeron
Malkin
Barkov
Point
Kuznestov
Eichel
Giroux
Pettersson

Those are all the guys I think are definitely ahead of Stone (in no order). That's 19 guys. I'd easily slide Stone in at 20 after them.

You are so out to lunch there isn't even a point in debating it. There aren't that many dmen in the entire league that could land Stone 1 for 1. Zero that are in the AHL or playing bottom pairing minutes right now.

Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNICGood morning...there is word Vegas has re-entered the Mark Stone conversations. Something to keep an eye on today.

 Pierre LeBrun @PierreVLeBrun
My sense on the Vegas Golden Knights. Plan A, Mark Stone; Plan B, Micheal Ferland. Having said that, the Hurricanes are wary of moving Ferland, concerned of affecting team chemistry in a playoff race. Ferland could be Carolina's own rental unless a team really steps up
