Not really a big fan of Coyle so not too interested from a Flames perspective.
Going to guess to Edmonton for Puljujarvi

Hes not had a playoffs so how can we judge how he performs there?
In short its much too small of a sample size to make any of the assumptions or inferences you're speaking about. I think that Dave was robbed of some of his confidence unrightfully, and I believe he has a much better chance of performing well in the playoffs than smith. I have no doubt in my mind that smith will Elliott the piss out of us come playoff time.
 |
My post did not contain assumptions or inferences. It is merely an observation to state that Rittich's performance has faded as the season went on in two consecutive seasons.

Saying that the sample size is too small cuts both ways, which was my point in the first place. The Flames are in a tough spot because they have a very strong team, but have legitimate questions in net. Maybe Rittich will play his very best hockey in the playoffs and staying the course is the right move. I'm not suggesting that this is impossible. However, acting like it isn't even a concern seems foolish, since Rittich hasn't even played a single playoff game yet and his numbers and performance level have both diminished since what was basically an elite first third of the season.

The 38-year-old netminder has a modified NTC, allegedly won't be an issue though. Also, if he plays next year, told strong chamce he re-signs w/ Anaheim this summer.

Ryan Millers name will always be synonymous with “quick shot 5 hole” in my mind.

I picture him looking the to sky, with Crosby’s gloves floating over his head, every time his name is mentioned.

So just the thought of his name makes me smile.

Context goes both ways. I'm not saying BSD has been notably better as of recently, but I think he deserves as much slack as Smith got through his first 25 games, which was a metric f-ton.
 |
Very true. But the numbers don't lie and I think Tre goes off them more than we realize. Both of the goalies have almost the same numbers if you go even further back.

Last 60 days:
Smith 10GP/5W/3.17/.899
BSD 14GP/9W/3.13/.896

I think the wins are team based, but there is a "make the big save" that can't be measured, but the closest stat for it would be wins. So BSD has it on win%. But there's no chance BSD gets the Smith leash because he wasn't a Coyote and isn't a "proven" NHL goalie... If that even applies to Smith anymore.

I heard from a pretty good source today that the Flames are indeed talking to the Sens about Duchene. I know it's not an Earth shattering statement as there have been rumours already floating around, but the person I know does have some connections in the player agent world and has given me some news before that ended up being true. He didn't say anything was imminent, only that there have been talks back and forth (more than just a phone call).

Elliot Friedman just said this isnt true and it was Donato and a pick for Coyle.
