For those who want Stone, what's your plan for fitting Stone and tkachuk under the cap?

The whole idea of the "sign and trade" is the fact that the player is only signing because he's being traded. Stone, in this example, is only signing because he's going to end up with another team. Calgary, in this instance, would be doing the negotiation.

Moving Frolik and trading Brodie at the draft.

That would leave the club with roughly 22.5 million. Add 3 million as the cap increase, but also deduct bonuses reached by guys on their elc's this year. No idea what that comes to, but im pretty sure it will eat most if not all of the increase.
Tkachuk is going to be 8.5 minimum (as high as 9.5) if we are using Matthews as the baseline for a new deal and anything longer than 3 years.
Stone is going to be no less than 8 and likely a bit more and he is very likely going to want a 7 year deal on top of that.
So that would leave say 8 million to sign, Bennett, Rittich, another goalie, Mangiapane, Hathaway or replacement, and Prout or replacement.
Simply isnt happening without a bridge to MT, and that could be playing with fire looking long term.

Buying out Neal would free $3.8M
Bennett 2.5M
Goalies 5M in total
3 bottom six forwards and a 7th depth defenseman for 4M in total.
11.5M in total.
Not impossible.
You could also possibly trade Neal with salary retained.

That is easily manageable. What do you think Rittich, Bennett, Mang, and Hathaway are going to make? Lol

Well Tre can make moves other than Brodie and Frolik to start with, and Rittich, Bennett wont demand very much at all.

Lets be real here...they aren't buying out Neal. Retaining salary in a trade is possible i guess but i don't see BT doing that just yet. Neal will be given another year to show that this one is the anomaly.
As for your bottom 6 forwards/7th D scenario...how are you managing that without trading away a bunch of players?
Bottom 6 guys now
Neal replacement 3.5M (including retained salary in hypothetical trade)
Bennett at 2.5 (your numbers...Im guessing 3.5 at least)
Ryan at 3.1
Janko at 1.7
Hathaway at 1M ish
Mangiapane at 1M ish
Czarnik 1.2M
7th D 800K
Someone else from the roster would have to be moved is the bottom line and that would denigrate the depth BT has worked so hard to accumulate. therefor i see no possible way Stone would be retained...life in a salary capped world.

What is "not very much"?
I think between them they get 7M...is that "not very much"?
Plus its not just them. You need another G, a 7th Dman, Mangiapane, Hathaway or replacement, and a 7th dman (or prepare to have a young guy not playing much...which is not how BT operates)

Your inability to think and make moves like a wizard is your own problem, not Brad Treliving's or the Calgary Flames.

Six players for 8M.
It's also not much at all to go around.

I don't know how much Chucky thinks he gonna make next year but I would be surprised if Treliving goes over 7 Million. Theres no way hes getting 8.

I think the point here is that the key to the Flames recent success has been depth that Treliving has managed to build. Signing Stone will cut into that depth, and it’s something that I suspect Treliving is unwilling to do.
Winnipeg makes more and more sense here for Stone: they will be entering the summer already with their own decisions to re-tool the roster, and I could see them move a couple players to retain Stone. It doesn’t work as well in Calgary.

Flames will trade him at that price
He is a winger that isn’t dynamic enough to drive a line
I love him , favourite player, but you can’t pay him like a franchise player. Because he isn’t

Especially going through this slump where he is almost invisible. If his slump lasts a little longer I can see 7.5 being a reality.
