The only thing that'll make things better is a pipeline.

Neither the UCP or the NDP will be responsible for when this actually happens.

Enbridge Line 3 is supposed to come into service late this year, and when that happens, things will improve. This will be the case regardless of who wins in May.

That’s easy, continue to blame outside forces as the government has zero affect on the short term economy

I'll happily give them credit where credit is due. My number one concern is good governance and if UCP provides that during their tenure, then bravo.

After the Alberta election and when both Line 3 is activated and TMX gets approved, I am looking forward to the UCP claiming any positive net gains to the provincial economy as their own and faulting the NDP for not getting it done. How convenient.

We've been saying "pipelines that will for sure /eventually get done" for like a decade now with Keystone XL, I don't care who finally gets them over the finish line but I'm going to heap some praise on them.

In reference to Line 3 it is currently being built. But because of the project scope you won't see a massive change in anything.

Honestly, considering the amazing amount of BS involved in that project that has been 'approved' but repealed over and over again, whoever does get it over the finish line deserves the praise.

I see what you’re saying, but every government has been in favour of it in Canada. It’s not really praiseworthy in my opinion, because basically we’ve been waiting for the US to allow it. Other than saying “we want this built” there’s nothing magical we have done or could’ve done, and I’m not praising Trump!

I don't know if they were going. They've really taken a back seat in Alberta Politics, they haven't gained any momentum. Mandel is a bad leader.


I just don't hear enough from them at all.


However there's always the chance that the NDP get stomped and the Alberta Party surpasses them.


They need better leadership and a bigger public presence.

I agree they need better leadership and presence, but in the age of social media, it's relatively easy to find out and "subscribe" to the kind of things they are doing.

Also, the only stories that seem to come out in the mainstream media about the NDP or UCP are framed to be negative, scandalous, or politically questionable. I don't see lack of mainstream attention as a bad thing, that just means they aren't making dire slip-ups and giving the Sun or Herald anything juicy. Well, except for this.

Tax increases, coal shutdown, mortgage stress test, minimum wage increase, pipeline blockages, increased regulations, interest rate hike, messing with the balance pool. Hell, an idiot involved in approving permits can screw everything up.

Governments affect the economy in countless ways.

And there was the whole we're not getting our fair share and we'll review royalties, essentially putting new investment on hold waiting for the governments review. Then to have them come back and say, yeah, well, I guess we are actually getting our fair share.
