Any potential GM with long term NHL aspirations isn't going to want to take that team over. Nor will that person want to be the name associated with having to trade McDavid.

i could be biased, but i totally agree with this.
if you are an up and coming GM candidate, you want a job that gives you a real chance to succeed... i just don't see that with Edmonton's cap situation and their prospect pool... it looks like you'd need 3 years just to get some decent prospects ready for the NHL and that time to get out of cap hell
i mean, maybe a retread like a Hextall would go for it, but some of the other names... tough job to take on with an owner who has been known to be hands on and the OBC you'd have to contend with

I think that it was interesting when I watched the post game interviews last night and Chiasson basically said it was good that the players were going to be getting away from each other, and McDavid hinted at the same thing.
Like I said before, I have my doubts not of McDavid the player, but of McDavid the leader and Captain. That team quits way too easily, they quit on 2 coaches this year.

The Trade Deadline is Monday, February 25.
Prior to then, the Oilers have 11 games, 6 are on the road, 5 are at home. 6 are against teams currently in a playoff position, 5 are against teams currently outside a playoff position.
Only 2 of their next 11 games are against teams currently below them in the standings.
The night of the trade deadline, they play on the road in Nashville. That is the first game of a five game road trip.
At this point, I think the ideal scenario would be for them to go about 6-5 or 7-4 over the next 11 games. Not enough to actually move up in the standings, but enough to make them think it could happen. Then, they make some big moves to acquire rentals at the deadline and immediately lose every game on the five game road trip and totally collapse down the stretch.

Better to go 5-6 and believe that one more piece will push them over the edge, IMO.

Nah, McDavid is a leader. There is not much more he can do for this organization. They've completely depleted him.
I'm curious who these players who are the problem are. It isn't a bottom line guy whose on the cusp of being out of the NHL forever.
Is it young guys like Nurse and Draisaital?
Is it Talbot, Kassian or Nuge?
Lucic?
But i'm willing to give McDavid a pass.

The team doesn't quit, because it doesn't even start. They have no idea what the hell they're doing on the ice. You can read my analysis of the Flames-Oilers game if you want. Under Hitchcock, Russell is not allowed to pass the puck. Their #2 d-man is not allowed to pass. The management have poor player judgement.

McDavid is going to be the first player to admit to being diagnosed with PTSD. He’s well on the way by the way he appears these days

The Oilers brass are dumber than Uncle Billy with no George to save them. I can just see all the other gm’s wringing their hands offering 10 cents on the dollar for the meagre scraps available.
Life is wonderful these days!
McDavid is going to quickly grow old and miserable, a broken shell of a man

Lawton sounded like he was desperate for consideration for the job. He would know that leading a team through a low period as a rookie GM is a bad career move as he's been without a job for 10 years since being fired.

Lawton might be worse than Chia.

In Edmonton, problem players on the team are guys that hate losing.
