Smelly turns are flushable. Chiarelli must have been a plant.

He took all of the cupboard doors out of the kitchen, put sardines between the mattresses and box springs, and did an upper decker in each of the toilets over the past couple of years.

Must be the greatest practical joke played on a franchise in history.

Oilers have had Four gm's over the past 12 years, as of today three were collecting a paycheck and tonight they fired the only one who had a playoff appearance.

Congrats to MacTavish and Lowe

What does Keith Gretzky’s resume look like?

“I’m Wayne’s brother.”?

Between Wayne and Keith, the brothers have a boatload of NHL success.

They pretty much have to go in-house for management. Any up-and-comer Assistant General Manager in the league isn't going to jump ship mid-season before knowing what the market will look like come summer (likely many more attractive destinations, not to mention the appeal of a ground-floor Seattle job).

Can’t be any worse than Nicholson’s in regards to day to day GM duties of and NHL club. Bob doesn’t get to rubber stamp a roster with 10 hall of famers on it as he did in the Olympics, while living high on the hog and glad handing sponsors and broadcasters and complaining about no Hockey Canada logo on jerseys.

So who talks tomorrow? Nicholson, Katz, Lowe, all of them?

Appointment viewing to be sure, and an absolute gold mine of material for years to come with the bluster and half truths to be spewed about “not being good enough” and “needing a winning culture” etc, as irony fills up the room, as this is all from the same crew that ran the organization into the ground long before Chia was there, and really put him behind the eight ball from the start with culture problems and cap problems that remain today.

Then, the smear job on Chia carried out as directed this last week or two, the positive spin on this from the state run media, licking these guys’ boots.

And with nothing really between now and the all Star break in terms of hockey, the NHL/sports media will be all over this.

Lowe loves his spotlight, now that he’s back from the shadows and him and his ego are officially in charge. This timing is not coincidental.

I hope they keep their no good fingers off Connie ... I’m actually a little scared they might find someone who’s competent ...

Fun trivia: Wayne's other brother Brent scored 10 NHL points, which combined with Wayne's 2857 makes them the highest scoring two brothers in NHL history!

The Gretzky brothers can't hear your criticism; they each have a pair of Stanley cup rings between their ears.

An amateur GM who sat on his hands and did no trading would be better than the disasters they've pulled off. When is the last time the Oilers made a decent trade?

How the hell did Katz make all those millions, it can’t be pure luck. There has to be either some intelligence, ambition or ruthlessness there. Enough of it to at least CONSIDER that what they’re doing isn’t working and what/who is the common factor in all this fail. I hope not of course, but I am.... flabbergasted.

I don’t think Katz is a dumb person, but I do think he’s out of his element when it comes to owning a hockey team. I also think he’s a fan and enjoys being able to tell people he’s “friends” with all the legends from the 80’s. It’s a status symbol for him.

I do think he cares, but his ego won’t let him fire all his heroes from 30 years ago.

If they do find someone competent, that person will only be for show. We all know the obc is calling the shots behind the scenes.

it's a sad day for every hockey fan outside of Greaserville. Bless you Peter, you did a fine job. We all know you deserved more time.

The silver lining is that the Oilers, with their experience in failure and no-goodness, will surely find a way to make things even worse for them. Personally I think MacTavish deserves another go although I feel Katz jr. would make a fine GM as well. He has vast draft experience, after all.

The lyrics from The Who on We Won't Get Fooled Again seem rather apt right now!

Quote:
The change, it had to come
We knew it all along
We were liberated from the fold, that's all
And the world looks just the same
And history ain't changed
'Cause the banners, they are flown in the next war
Quote:
Yeaaah!
Meet the new boss
Same as the old boss

NSFW!
