Chiarelli is a genius. He recognized that taking the Oilers GM job was a big mistake and now he's trying everything possible to get fired so he can leave. pure genius.

Makes sense the Oilers would be interested in Lazar. For a while Oilers amateur scouting didn't go much beyond the Oil Kings.

Honestly, it's pathetic that McDavid doesn't even remotely seem to care about his appearance. Sure, he's paid to play hockey and not look good, but 13 million/year should at least mean you can avoid the neck beard. Have some professionalism.

			Conspiracy theory:
This is all Katz. People in Edmonton pissed him off through the arena negotiations and he’s getting revenge. Tried to threaten to move them to Seattle. Now watch him leave McDavid exposed in the expansion draft for Seattle. Then Katz sells the Oilers and after a short while gets a share of ownership in the Seattle team. Announced as many millions he put in but actually gets a share for nothing.

Then sits back smoking cigars with the rest of the Pacific owners laughing their heads off as the Oilers finish last again and start yet another rebuild.

Listening to the NHL network on and off today, they were just ripping the Oilers.
Jesus, they're the laughing stock of the league.

It's all the more glorious for us, and painful for them that we're first in the conference while this clown show is going on.

The thread title this year is utter perfection.

I fixed it for you. Now let’s wait for AlbertaOiler72 to tell us all about the Browns and the 76ers.

I originally thought it was just a cheap pun. A one-off meme. Surprised that it's taken off.

It doesn’t make sense that three new GM’s have walked through that door since Kevin’s “firing” and almost all the moves look and feel exactly the same. I can’t understand how Chai can go from an undisputed brilliant executive with the Bruins to....this.

There has to be more to this story then we’re seeing.

I've decided to look more at the organizational structure of OEG and I am really loving how much of a mess it is, even if you had a good GM. To paint a picture of what Chiarelli is in the middle of: imagine showing up and you're given the title of President and General Manager. That's a lot of power and responsibility and there's only ever a few GMs who also hold the President title (based on a cursory search there are only two others right now, Lou Lamourillo and Don Waddell). You didn't even have the title in Boston so this should be a promotion.

So when you show up you're introduced to your boss Bob Nicholson. CEO and Vice-Chair of OEG. That's fair, he's not in a Cam Neely role. He's overseeing the business side of the organization, you're President of the team. You get to run the team your way...right?

Then you're introduced to a Vice-Chair. Okay, that's a vague title. This guy is the former President, and a former GM who's job description reads as 'working closely with the CEO' who he is good buddies with, along with the owner. So is he your boss as well? Or is he only your boss in the case the Chair is incapacitated? What's the deal here?

Then there's the other Vice-Chair. Also buddies with the Vice Chair and CEO and a legend of the game. His description is being an ambassador and a 'sounding board' for you. Is he your boss? Do you need to listen to what he has to say? What exactly is the org structure here? Could one of the Vice-Chairs be your boss and not the other? They're always in the owners box anyway, so they might as well be your bosses.

Then there's your subordinate. Your VP. Who also happens to be the former GM (that's a little awkward). He is also really good buddies with the Vice-Chairs and the owner. Do you even want him here? Are you in control of his job description? Could you even fire him if you wanted to?

So Chiarelli has effectively gotten a promotion in name only, has more bosses than before, has a subordinate who he likely can't fire or even change the job description of, and the only person of your own it seems like you were able to bring in likely was because he is the brother of one of your Vice-Chairs. And who knows who else might find their way into the coaching staff or front office, or who will be given an ambassadorship and be another 'sounding board' for you to deal with.

Could you imagine somebody like Lamourillo or even Burke stepping into that situation?

E=NG.

At this point I'm shocked how bad that organization is. Think about it, we are talking about a franchise worth more than 500M with revenues of at least 100M per year. The franchise is embeded in the local culture and has a diehard following. The owner is a billionaire who can afford any staff he wants, he didn't get rich by hiring losers. They've had the best draft picks of any team the last decade. Can you think of any other billion dollar corporation that is that disfunctional?
Chiapet came in with a mostly blank slate, McDavid pick, multiple high end assets and picks to trade, tons of cap space. Guy is worse than Milbury at this point.

Chia reminds me of this old column:
