Blues Stun Avs

After losing just one game in their previous 11, the Avs fell victim to the Blues. Mark Parish continued his strong play with a goal and an assist, just like the previous night. Petr Cejanek and Peter Forsberg also scored for the Blues.

Nick Lidstroms has made great progress in the last 24 hrs and his injury is not as serious as first thought.

In other notes, its been 5 games since the Blues-sabres blockbuster trade, so some stats on newcomers are in order. During the 5 games, the newcomers have been on fire:

Parish 3-3-6
Devries 2-5-7
Hecht 1-3-4

Big night for Brendan Morrow!

Both my goalies went from a 99 in CD to a 98 after this game. Just up from the 97 a week ago Guess its time to make a call up as this is really starting to tick me off. Lankow and Elias playing on the last line once again are still sick with the flu and will have to remain on the chk line for a third game in a row. Despite the flu bug going through the dressing room the boys still managed another OT loss. Hey, atleast we managed a point! Elias left the game with a leg injury in the second but looks like he will be ready to go at 80% for tomorrow night game. The 4th game in this brutal 7 games in 7 night stretch. Once again the team gave up 8 powerplays. Im beggining to see a trend here.

The upside

Morrow with his promotion to the top line again produced with 4 points.
Markov with his 4th straight game with atleast 2 points.
and....thats about it.

BLACKHAWKS FINALLY GET A LITTLE SCALP

Oilers Vicitm as Hawks end CPHL record losing streak, Yeah good work Sylvanfan you Jackass.

The Edmonton Oilers warned us about it, they said all the right things to demonstrate that they did not want to upset the karma. But the big K bit them in the ass big time today as the Oilers became an answer to a trivia question dropping a 3-2 Overtime decision to the Blackhawks today. Althought the Oilers are playing their 3rd game in 3 nights and 6th in the past seven, fatigue can hardly be used as an excuse as the Hawks are currently enduring a similar stretch in their schedule. The reason for the end to the streak can be attributed to two things: Brent Johnson who was sensational turning aside 32 shots for the Hawks, and Oiler buffoon GM Sylvanfan's attempt at player fatigue management.

The Oilers intentionally attempted to ice a lineup which took many of their top players out of key roles in an attempt to ensure that they would remain fresh for the tommorrows tilt with the Thrashers. The move backfired though, as the Hawks played a scrappy game and took the victory in OT. Radek Dvorak scored his second goal in as many games for the Oilers, and Bobby Holik tallied fist period markers for the Oilers on the heels of Mike VanRyns opener on the powerplay. Kurt Sauer tied the game at 5:58 of the second period. From there the two teams played to a draw until rookie sensations Alexander Ovechkin and Jiri Hudler teamed up to win it for the Hawks showing the CPHL record crowd of 19389 a glimpse of what to expect in the United Centre for the next 10 years.

Oilers top net minder Thomas Vokun played a poor game whereas Hawks stopper Brent Johnson had his best game of the season. Johnson stalwarted the Oilers 12 shots in the third period to get the game to Overtime, and the Hawks needed only the one shot by Hudler on the PP to end it. Next up for the Oilers are the CPHL pace setting Thrashers who always get stellar goaltending, and don't ever make any defensive mistakes. One would have to think the Thrashers would be dissappointed with anything less than a 5-0 trouncing of the hapless Oil tommorrow.

Hawks goalie finally won a game for his team. Brent Johnson finally managed to become a useful member of society by entertaining 20000 taxpayers with top-flight performance. Sami Salo, who was by far the worst player in +/- had a 3-points night. Hawks PP scored 2 and gave up 0.

As I told Sylvanfan yesterday, Hawks took a lead and outshot Oilers in 1st. However, early-warned Oilers came back to 2-1. But Kurt Sauer, who is terrible when playing with Van Ryn but great when playing with Salo, tied things up. And Hudler from Salo and Ovechkin scored a PP winner in overtime.

BROADSTREET BROADCAST

Flyers Come to Life, Smash Canadiens

By Heywood Jablome

Sparked by some unknown and possibly "cosmic" force, the Flyers demolished the Monetreal Canadiens by a score of 8-2. The Flyer power play sparked itself going 2 for 6 on the night, and the penalty kill was spectacular going 9 for 9. Head Coach Cosmic Stan is credited for the improved penalty killing, a recent problem for the Flyers, buy making a few slight changes to the PK lineup.

Flyers GM Dan Lemmon was caught by this reporter as he was leaving the Wachovia Center tonight and said that he was "pleased with the teams performance, I just wish they could score 8 goals when Wanks is in net so we'd win those games."

The game started off with a bang as the Steven Reinprecht show started up, with 2 goals and an assist in the first 8 minutes of play as he paced the Flyers to the win. After the game Reinprecht said "I finally figured out what wood davers were. Coach Cosmic wanted me to score goals! After I scored the second one he bear hugged me and gave me his broken radio to hold for the game. He even tried to get me to hold onto it when I went back on the ice."

The radio incident was a cause for concern as Reinprecht left the radio on the bench to hit the ice only to have Stan throw it at him with a gleeful smile on his face screaming "wood daver!" He was ejected from the game, though not without a fight. He ran out on the ice to collect the radio, then had the linesmen and referees in a fit as they chased him around the ice while he yelled things like "The magnetic levitators wither with the spin potential!" and "Won't get my defector!"

Eventually with the help of several players from both teams and the officials Stan was sustained, lead off the ice and placed in his wagon where he was wheeled to the dressing room. He spent the rest of the game sitting in the wagon waiting for the players to walk by so he could shout "I like peppermint with my ducky!" as they passed by to the dressing room.

In other news, defenceman Shawn Heins has been cleared to play, but is expected to miss one more game before returning to the lineup.

Oilers 2 Hawks 3 (OT)

Hawks had lost 11 games to this point, but only in 2 of them they were outshot more badly than in this victory. Preds outshot Hawks by 21 to win 5-0, Ducks outshot Hawks by 19 to win 4-2 and Oilers outshot Hawks by 13 to lose in overtime.

Brent Johnson will get all the credit for stopping Hawks losing streak despite pathetic performance by his teammates.

The game had started with numerous penalties and with Dumont and Lecavalier in the box, Hawks 5 on 3 powerplay managed to put one in. Mike Van Ryn scored his second of the season from Salo and Malone to put his team ahead. Hawks are scoring the first goal of the game in 3rd game in a row, despite doing this only once in all previous games.

Five minutes later Oilers took advantage of Hawks least disciplined Ryan Malone and converted a powerplay chance to tie the game at one. Oddly enough, mutual PP goals stopped teams from takin any penalties at all. Acquired from Wild Radek Dvorak used some help from Spezza and Rafalski to give Oilers the lead. Hawks outshot their opponents in 1st for 3rd straight game and only fifth time this season but were down 2-1 at the intemission.

Since then the game was all Oilers as they've outshot Hawks 26-11 in last two periods only to see Johnson shutting the door and surprising scorer Kurt Sauer tying the game in second. At the overtime it took Hawks one shot to seal the deal, as 4 on 3 powerplay with Hannan in the box set up rookie Jiri Hudler for his second of the season, both of which were scored with help from Ovechkin.

Stars get OT Victory!

Dallas,TX- The Stars finally ended their losing streak with a 6-5 overtime victory over the Detroit Red Wings. Ryan Miller making his first start with the Stars picked up the win in making 15 saves. Not the best performance, but it was good enough to do the job. The Stars special teams struggled with them going 1-8 on the PP and stopping the Wings on 3 of 4 chances. The Stars did get an shorthanded goal as well.

The first period was dominated by Dallas as they came out fired up and they got a huge lead. Mike Fisher started off the scoring for the Wings, but the Stars quickly countered. Jason Wiemer got his 3rd goal which helped extending his goal scoring streak to 3 games and his point scoring streak to an impressive 7 games. A minute later Ben Clymer notched his goal from Jarett Stoll and Aaron Miller. Bednar notched his team leading 7th goal from Audette and Backman. To end the period Aaron Miller scored his 3rd of the season to put the Stars up by 3 going into the 2nd period. The Stars outshot the Wings 13-6 in the period. The second period was more even then the first, but the Stars would still come out with a 3 goal lead. Jeff Frieson scored for the Wings in the period while Jamie Lundmark countered for the Stars shorthanded. This was Lundmark's 2nd shorthanded goal of the season which ties him for the league lead in that department. The third period was basically opposite of the first period. This time the Wings dominated and they were able to send the game to overtime. Frieson scored his 2nd of the game. Lehtinen and Laraque also scored in the period as the Wings tied the game up at 5. With less then a minute left in the 3rd Daymond Langkow took a roughing penalty which would prove costly for the Wings. An in overtime and on the PP Krys Kolanos finally snapped the Stars losing streak with his 7th of the season. Rookie d-man Christian Backman had a huge night for the Stars as he tallied 3 assists and was named the game's 3rd Star.

Injury News: The Stars did lose a player due to injury. In the third period Left Winger Antti Laaksonen left the game with an injury and is day to day.

Tomorrow night the Stars will face the Florida Panthers. It is expected Miller will once again get the start and Mark Smith should draw in for the injured Laaksonen.

Twin City Times

Wild Come Up Short
New Lineup doesn't do the job.

In the midst of one of their hottest streaks of the season, GM and Head Coach Grant Farhall scratched a couple of his key players in an effort to get them healthy. Prior to the game Farhall stated that he wasn't worried about not having Sami Kapanen, David Vyborny, or injured Willie Mitchell in the lineup, as he believed his team had enough depth to get by.

I guess not.

The Wild put forth their season's worst effort, generating only 20 shots in a dismal 4-1 loss to the San Jose Sharks. The squad looked tired and downright disintersted as they coasted their way through 60 minutes. After the game Farhall was fuming.

"Where were our leaders tonight? You have some injuries and you expect guys to step up...tonight...they didn't. It's just that simple".

And things don't get easier for the Wild as they continue in their streak that sees them play 7 games in 7 nights. Tomorrow's game against the Flames is #4 in the streak. Farhall stated that he will go with the same lineup, meaning for the second straight game they will be without Kapanen and Vyborny. A risky move...not according to Farhall.

"In my mind it would be foolish to press these guys into action only to have them aggravate their injuries and be out of the lineup for weeks or months. I'm going to let these guys get healthy. Its a long season, I'd rather go with a patched together lineup for a few games to ensure the long-term health of these guys".

Farhall will go with Jocelyn Thibault tomorrow night, who will need a strong game.

Game Notes
- The Wild's lone goal was from Richard Zednik - his team leading 11th of the season
- The loss marked the first of the season for backup Garth Snow.
- Shane Willis made his Wild debut and was one of the few even players on the night, although he played just 3 minutes.

BOSTON 'BOARDING' BRUINS BEATUP BOY-OTES

OLD TIME HOCKEY SINKS DESERT BOYS

Boston (AP) - It was a night featuring some serious old time hockey. Power play goals, a shorthanded goal and TWO Bruin game misconducts for boarding. Once the dust settled in Beantown Miroslav Satan and Andy Sutton were on their way to the University Hospital while Curtis Leschyshyn and Mattias Timander enjoyed a cold brew in the dressing room.

Highlights from the game also included ANOTHER power play goal from fan favorite (and management favorite) Yanic Perreault, 2 goals from the greatest Russian player of our time Ilya Kovalchuk and a shorthander from Shawn Mceachern.

Next up for the Bruins is a game against the Capitals from Washington. Its a dangerous time to be playing the Caps. The Bruins are fatigued from their 4th game in 4 night and the Caps have hit a bit of a cold streak and will be looking to break it. New addition Mike Dunham is expected to start his first game as a Bruin.

258 ISLANDERS 3 KINGS 4

GOMEZ LEADS KINGS OVER ISLANDERS

In the second game of the home-and-home series with the New York Islanders, the Los Angeles Kings returned NYI's favour at home, winning 4-3.

After surrendering the first goal, the Kings charged back, scoring the next four. Scott Gomez scored the first three of those for the natural hat trick. Darcy Tucker potted the fourth.

The Isles crawled to within one, but that would be all. Frustrated, Craig Rivet hooked Gomez in the shoulder, injuring him. The Kings will have to rely on Patrice Bergeron to fill Gomez's role while Gomez recovers from his injury, which is thankfully listed as day-to-day. Also, Mark Mowers will draw into the lineup.

As with the first game, the Kings wildly outshot the Islanders in the second period, this time 17-6.

Mika Noronen filled the LA net and earned his first win of the season, while Dan Cloutier rested up on the bench. Cloutier should start tomorrow night versus Vancouver.

Manchester fell to Bridgeport in the minors.

Free give away gets ugly, but not as ugly as Washington

After a promotion goes slightly wrong where people were in near riot mode trying to get a GM Halifax Drunk Bobblehead there finally was a hockey game.

Like last night the Ducks came out flat giving up the first 2 gaols, but then caught on fire. Answering back with the next 3 and 2 more in the 3rd period the ducks flew to a 5-3 victory.

Amazingly enough due to the delay in the game from the near riot Oleg Kvasha got clearance to play half way through the 1st period, (last night Jaromir Jagr hit Kvasha in the head with a flagrant high stick). Doctors were awaiting the results from a CATscan and the delay provided the extra time needed.

Todd White lead the charge with 2 goals and an assist. “When we heard the news Oleg was cleared to play half way through the 1st period we were quite excited. At the time we were down t goals but we rallied around his return and played like we can.” Kvasha even went on to score the 5th Ducks goal in the 3rd period.

The Ducks are hosting the Toronto Maple Leafs tomorrow night.

SABRES ALLOW 3 STRAIGHT TO SQUANDER LEAD
Not much to say. Team missed Giguere and Rucchin

The Buffalo Sabres are thin. Scary thin. and it showed in a game where G JS Giguere was rested and 2nd line C Steve Rucchin was hurt. They limped through a 3-1 loss to the Devils. The Sabres are rumoured to have acquired a mediocre option for a 3rd line C, to give Riku Hahl a reprieve. Hahl was clearly overmatched going -2 this afternoon. Sabres GM very disappointed right now.
