Yeah because Poirier, Kanzig, Klimchuk, Sieloff, and Wotherspoon were all so sick. Feaster's draft record is inflated because of a once in a lifetime lucky strike with Gaudreau. Besides that he's given us Monahan who was an absolute no-brainer and a serviceable bottom 6 guy in Jankowski, not really ace level talent evaluating there. Treliving's had a few post first rounders make the team and impact play in Mangiapane Andersson and Kylington which easily puts him past the guys Feaster drafted even in the first round. Go back and look at that 2013 draft it's like Feaster tried to avoid guys who would eventually play in the NHL. Poirier and Klimchuk drafted around guys like Burakovsky, Shea Theodore, Marko Dano, and Ryan Hartman. Combine those bad picks with the scrub prospects we got back for Iggy and Bouwmeester it's no wonder the guy will never and should never have a job as a GM again.
Please please hire him Oilers.

Bringing up Feaster is fine. It serves as a reminder that the Flames didn't take a more than a decade to get of their dark times and got rid of bad management and out of suckiosity at a normal speed. It makes the Oilers look even more pathetic which really gives me feelings of Chiadenferude

Do you prefer getting kicked in the balls or punched in the balls?

Awesome post. I recall the drool-ey "The Team Jay Feaster Built!" thread started by puckluck (I think, not 100% sure); my God it was unbearable! Feaster's handling of Iginla and Bouwmeester's trades was awful, overall. Those were high-quality assets and he did nothing with them. I really wish he ends up in Edmonton and writes a few offer-sheets.

I think we should avoid painting figures like Feaster in an exclusive light. We shouldn't discount the impacts that the selections of Gaudreau, Jankowski, and Monahan have had on the Flames. Feaster was the general manager when the Flames picked those players, and he deserves credit for being a part of that selection process. Ultimately, even as some people here say that he gave his scouts lots of agency, he still could have very easily intervened. He didn't. Under his direction, the Flames selected three valuable forwards. Sure, they could have picked more. But under the previous regime, the Flames seldom took anyone of value in the draft, especially -- and most frustratingly -- in the first round.
Feaster did lots of questionable things. Trading Bouwmeester when he did made little sense, and the circumstances surrounding the Iginla and Tanguay trades were less than ideal. You can argue that, overall, Jay Feaster was a bad GM, and you might be right.
But there's no real point in calling Feaster's draft record "inflated." At the end of the day, the picks were made. Why shouldn't we give him credit? Feaster was clearly invested heavily into this team -- remember how much he raved about the Flames in 2015, well after he was fired?
So, why shouldn't we give Feaster some credit for the good that came out of his tenure?
Edit: also, E=NG. That's what this thread is for, right?

Some credit is fine. We picked some good players during his tenure. Thinking he is an elite GM who we should fear might be signed by the oilers is laughable.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

All this talk about Feaster going to Edmonton is crazy talk. He has no connection to the 80's Oilers, why the hell would they ever consider him? It'll be discount Gretzky or MacTavish round 2 for sure

A friendly reminder, this is a E=NG thread,if you still want to discuss Feaster's tenure as a Flames GM, may be create a new thread? Thanks.

Exactly. Feaster as Oilers' new GM would make a great contribution to the formula constant validity.
