Damn skippy. That was the exact same kind of hit he laid out on nurse. And the same kind of late game blow up Dumba laid on Backlund. All legit. You don't have to like it but good on Bennett for doing his thing. SJ better put their big boy pants on because there's a war brewing.

No surprise on no suspension. It was a clean hit - textbook actually.

I didn't like the hit in context

Nothing wrong with the mechanics of thr hit itself, but laying a dude out like that in a 3 goal game with not that much time left is something I was really not okay with when it happened to backlund and I'm not okay with a flame Doing it either

The goalie shouldn’t be spearing Flames players then.

That hit doesn’t happen if the Sharks aren’t taking cheap shots.

The right call, they couldn't ignore the Dumba hit which was far worse, or the Buff slash which garnered a fine and then roll out a suspension on this one.

But the NHL has a problem as their department of player safety and officiating crews seems to be confused by the rules and aren't enforcing anything consistency.

Haha, poor sharks are going to be even more whiny after this.

I am eager for the flames to provide a similar beat down to the ducks, and then it will be clear the flames have emerged out of the Pacific.

Blowing a guy up in a 3 goal game with a minute left on a guy who didnt do anything to bennett except wear a green jersey is a pretty chicken shirt move if you ask me. I don't care what the goalie did

Games are not in a vacuum. They are emotional, and involve and relate to past and future incidents and issues.
This hit relates directly to everything that happened in the third, and sets a tone for future games.

I could be remembering things incorrectly, but I believe a couple years ago it leaked that the Flames requested a meeting with the NHL and had prepared a presentation campaigning against bias. Or more likely framed in the service of consistency, and to regain face after the Wideman incident.

Again, IIRC, it did not go well for the Flames.

Call it a conspiracy, but when you have experts admitting that officials are human and have bias, even on a subconscious level, it's not far fetched to think there is still bad blood between the Flames organization and certain departments of the NHL over the entire Wideman fiasco. That incident was a #### show from the get go.

Nah, that will just get you suspended.

It’s the kind of response the Flames have needed for years TBH.

This sent a pretty clear message legally.

I agree with you in principle, it's tough to tell your players to turn it off. Particularly when the game is already emotionally heated. But it was an unnecessary and late hit and If it was reversed most here wouldn't like it.

It's much ado about not all that much though. It was a clean hit to the chest and the player wasn't (or at least shouldn't have been) in a vulnerable position. Getting bent out of shape over this type of hit is a waste of energy imo.

I dont agree. You play the game hard for 60 minutes. Why should either side let up regardless of score or time left in the game.

How can anyone be sure what the ref saw? He could have been looking up the ice. Dell's body could have blocked his view of the slash.

This one they shouldn’t let slide just because the perception is they owe the Flames one. League should be looking at the Dell spear as well and handing out some discipline there as well, but that does not excuse Bennett’s decision.
I am actually embarrassed for you, such a bad take.

Hits should be suspended depending on the time of the game and the lead? Ridiculous. I didn't like the Dumba hit on Backlund but it was clean.

If the Sharks weren't running around slashing, cross-checking and spearing like losers in the 3rd period I wouldn't have liked the Bennett hit either, but they were asking for it.

Weird that none of the no-hit guys are vilifying the stick work? Apparently being illegally hit by a stick is just a normal hockey play but a clean hockey hit should now be suspend-able.
