Stone wasn’t worth a second before he signed his current contract, was healthy scratched and developed injury concerns.

Nah, I don't think it's that cut and dry.
They both have value to rebuilding teams in need of each bodies.
They aren't pieces that make a team give you anything of value, but they aren't so bad you have to pay a higher price to get.rid if them.
Cap values have to work for a trade. If the rangers want toove a high value player for a high value pick(s), they understand they will have to most like accept salary back.
If Tampa wants McDonough and Miller, the rangers take back namestnikov to consummate the deal and get the valuable picks they are after.

Lol, stone a second.
Guy is a healthy scratch for 15 games in favour of 2 raw rookies and his value increases above what he was traded for just a season prior.
No, Michael Stone is not worth close to a 2nd.

But we have the wizard. And a 3rd and 5th is very close value to a 2nd.
Polak was traded for a 2nd one deadline IIRC. Doug Murray who’s a worse skater than Stone was once traded for two 2nds at a deadline. Teams will overpay for defensive depth heading into the playoffs.
Treliving got a conditional 1st/2nd+ for Russell who many here thought was total garbage. Treliving got a 2nd and 3rd for Glencross who only had 9 goals in 55 games that year and was quickly out of the league. Didn’t he get a 2nd and 4th for a declining Hudler as well?
Treliving is a wizard when it comes to dealing away vets. I wouldn’t be worried about any potential Stone or Frolik trade if he decides to make one.

Nic Petan would likely be involved. Outside that no point in guessing.

I think we could easily get a 2nd, and maybe even a decent prospect for Frolik. But I wouldn't do that trade unless we had plans to acquire another similar player somehow.

If I were doing it, I'd start increasing Frolik's playing time by putting him in Backlund's spot on the powerplay. (Not Ryan's, because they'll want a right-handed shot in his spot -- I'd either keep him there or put Andersson there.)
Backlund is by far the worst fit on the second powerplay. He doesn't do anything there. Zero points this season on the powerplay.

I hear you but they’re not adding any value to a trade. Yes you could include them in a trade where you’re giving up picks, but if you didn’t include them, the deal still gets done. You’re doing it because you need to move the salary not because the other team covets them. And your trading partner knows this. Their value as borderline NHL players is relatively low and lowered by their salary commitment for next year.

Disappointing hearing that from his agent - I hope it is just his agent spewing nonsense as his agent is known to do. Frolik can't be happy with how he is utilized this season, but he seems to be a consummate team player, and I don't think he would say much to rock the boat... but we don't know anything really.
As for the situation, I do think that Frolik in the lineup makes the Calgary Flames better. He is fast, and he is one of the best players on the forecheck and on the PK. He doesn't have much of a shot, and he isn't much of a playmaker, but he is a good depth role player that seems to make the players he is with better. Plus, can anyone really say they have ever seen Frolik dogging it? I can't. He might be the consistently highest-working player on the Flames.
In a perfect world, the Flames manage to trade him to another team for tangible assets. I can imagine that this puts quite a strain on the relationship with the coach, but who knows... maybe they have already talked about it and it is water under the bridge already. Will be interesting to see what happens - nothing? Increased playing time? Trade? Either way, Frolik has been a good soldier for the Flames from the onset.

Yeah, I agree they aren't adding value, but if they aren't willing to take salary back, their pool of trade partners is limited.

What if we just keep Frolik and Stone for our playoff run instead of trading anyone? If we meet Winnipeg or Anaheim there will be injuries. I would almost guarantee it.

All I can get

A pick/prospect for Frolik would be acceptable if it gives Treliving a bit of cap space to play around with come deadline.
I think the team is confident that Dubé is versatile enough to play as a two-way winger.

You run the risk we won’t be able to unload them in the summer and be in significant cap trouble if Tkachuk pushes for a contract is north of $8M per.

I’d rather a 3rd round pick than another undersized not top 6 forward.
