Stone has been out since 22 November. I would guess he is at least a few weeks away—it takes a long time to safely come off of blood thinners.

I would imagine he is back by late January, but don’t think the Flames will move him until the summer. Brad Treliving covets this defensive depth he has built—especially for the playoffs.

Man, has it been awesome watching Valimaki, Andersson & Kylington play at high levels this year.

The fact that we can ice 3 pairings with guys who are extremely good skaters, with or without the puck, and can actually play defence, has been a real treat to watch.

What's even more outstanding is the fact that most of the season has seen the bottom pairing have 2 rookies on it, yet they meet the challenge almost night in and night out.

Pretty curious who starts in net tomorrow...

I think Timonen was on blood thinners for 6 months

I would anticipate that this is safe exercise, to maintain conditioning, but would not be surprised if there is no set timetable for return.

I get a little misty eyed whenever I see Kylington in particular - I always thought he'd be in the NHL, and was very keenly disappointed when he didn't make the team last year.


He skates and stickhandles like Karlsson when he jumps up into the play though.

I'd give it to Rittich. Let Smith handle the Red Wings on Wednesday of the back-to-back next week so Rittich gets two full days off before facing the Bruins on Thurs. He's rested from the holidays and would be playing 3 games in 6 nights this week, which is more than reasonable to let him carry.

If a struggling Smith starts tomorrow against a divisional team who's surging up the standings I have no idea how to explain it logically. There is no excuse to play him at this point other than to manage Rittich's starts as he gives you a quality start in less than half of his appearances, and had consecutive terrible performances with godawful goals against.

I agree, Kylington's development has been impressive. He has the confidence in his abilities to make those cuts and moves on the ice which is rare for a defenseman. He'll be one of those players on the Flames who have fans split in half with one half loving his offensive talent and another half preferring safer plays from a defenseman.

He does seem to be picking his moments to jump into the play. I thought he'd do it more (with less care / less responsibility) but he's been careful and seems to be decent at spotting higher percentage opportunities. Was really hoping he could snipe it in last night after he made a few nice dangles in the o-zone.

Timonen had a leg clot and emboli in his lungs. Stone has an arm clot and it would be rare for a large lung emboli from the arms. Similar but quite different

He could be still on anticoagulant therapy and skating with no contact allowed

If Stone gets back to full health the decision seems obvious to me..

Send Prout down.

If we need a fighter for a game call Peluso up.

We have 8 NHL calibre dmen so losing Prout is not a big concern IMO.

In terms of physicality I don’t even think Prout has shoved anybody this year. The one hit he threw in the Edmonton game he took an unnecessary penalty.

Peluso at least almost scored a goal and stood up for a team mate in his 4 minutes of ice time.

Based on how that hand lookes yesterday I think hamonic could miss a few weeks.

Yea the only argument that can be made is he deters the other teams fighters but I'm not completely sold on it.

If we need a roster spot before the roster limit is lifted he should be the guy going down.

I still get the impression that they view Rittich as a back-up performing admirably to hold the fort for Smith and that Smith is going to get every opportunity to redeem himself.

NHL coaches almost always favour veterans.
