Very arguable. Fleury has a better record, GAA and sv%.
8-8-1 on a Vegas team that is struggling to replicate a Cinderella year. 2.60, .902
Smith is 5-7-1, 3.48, .876
And we know you have seen how Smith is letting the goals in.
It’s beyond numbers, it is how they go in and the game situation.
As for numbers, if Smith wants to hit Fleury’s sv%, he will need to pitch 3 shutouts averaging 30 saves each. 5 shutouts would put him near average.

The biggest risk I could see the Flames considering would be Cory Schneider but he would have to come cheap and maybe a little retention. Something like Smith and Frolik for Schneider at $1M retained. Maybe the Flames kick in Gillies tomfive the Devils a golaie with potential for the future?
Could blow up in the Flames face easily though.

Agreed. Not to mention we could have had MAF for 2 seasons already. 2017 he was the big reason Pittsburgh made it to the Stanley Cup finals. Without him and Murray I sure that Pittsburgh don't make it. Last year we know he took Vegas to the Stanley Cup. Who knows we could all be wearing Cup champs hats right now
As far as the $7 million and 3 years contract I'd rather have that then 5 year James The real deal contract.

You keep glossing over the fact that we almost certainly would not have Matthew Tkachuk in this scenario.

Get this team a MF goalie already! Philly west.

I bet these guys are all thankful to get away from the shackles of Jordan Sigalet.

Don’t get me wrong I can definitely see why people are hard on Sigalet, however you can’t just gloss over the fact that he’s also coaching Rittich who looks awesome.

But there were like 10 responses after your first one explaining that it would have cost Matthew Tkachuk. You would make that switch if you could go back in time?

Right. I don’t get your point. Counter argument: They get worse under Sigalet and most don’t get a chance to redeem themselves. Is he a career killer? Only for everyone but Rittich. He must be okay.
I’m sure they preferred the NHL paycheque that coincided with the shackles of Sigalet. Probably very disappointed with how he helped advance their careers.

Sweet. A highlight reel pack of James Neal's shots on goal. How about you put one in the ####ing net?

Flames could probably be 5 points better in the standings right now if it weren'tfor Smith.

What The Hell:
This is at least the 4th game now (without a doubt) that Smith has cost the Flames, that is 8 points!
I thought coach was surely gonna pull him after the 3rd goal tonight.
That's a lot of steam taken out of the boys this season already, this needs to end.

If Neal was shooting against Mike Smith he’d have a hat trick today.

I genuinely feel that the Flames are better off finding a backup goalie through the wavier wire or a trade, rather than letting Smith in a backup role. You can't guarantee one weak goal every time you're in net; even as a backup.
