Flames Practice notes Dec 21. Could Frolik play tomorrow? Smith starts vs Blues

Last practice before the Christmas break.

Pat Steinberg @Fan960Steinberg
Travis Hamonic not on the ice for practice this morning.

Michael Frolik taking part in his first full practice for the first time since being injured. He’s very close to returning. #Flames

Kristen Anderson @KdotAnderson
#Flames hitting the ice this morning for a brief twirl before their family skate. Spotted RW Andrew Mangiapane and D Michael Stone working on the ice before the skate. RW Michael Frolik is skating with the main group for the second straight day. No D Travis Hamonic.

Is Mangiapani injured that he is still here? Or was he recalled?

This looks like Frolik might play tomorrow and Prout with Hanifin suggests Hamonic is on a maintenance day.

Pat Steinberg @Fan960Steinberg
#Flames at practice today:

Gaudreau-Monahan-Lindholm
Tkachuk-Backlund-Bennett
Frolik-Jankowski-Neal
Quine-Ryan-Hathaway

Giordano-Brodie
Hanifin-Prout
Kylington-Andersson

Czarnik and Lomberg extras. Hamonic not skating.

Probably just a maintenance day for Hamonic. He did block several Stamkos slappers.

Re: Hamonic maintenance
Absolutely. Prout would get 3rd pairing, no chance he plays with Hanifin.

Unless its some sort of Christmas bonus.

Kidding.

Valimaki must've broken his foot or something? He's been gone a while, no sign of return.

I'm guessing high ankle sprain.

God, I sure hope not. That could mean the end of his season. Mind you, I would guess if it was so serious that management would have disclosed his injury by now and essentially shut him down.

Usually it's about 1/3 to 1/2 a season for those injuries. Bourque had one IIRC.

The good news with that or a broken bone is that they tend not to be recurring. Unlike, say, a joint injury.

Hopefully Hamonic is just taking a day to heal. He took a slapper to the back while trying to block a point shot. The kid is a warrior.

I'm surprised that Andersson isn't on maintenance as well. He also took a shot from behind, but his was right in the tuchus. I had to laugh watching the replay and seeing him wince after the shot right in the butt.

I guess they envision Jankowski setting up Frolik & Neal.

15-20 goals apiece would be ideal.
