i think I said it in this thread previously, but he actually reminds me of a tall Jordan Leopold for those fans that remember him when he was stellar.

Having said that, that goal Hanifin scored last night looked pretty similar to Bouwmeester's first as a flame:

He has simply exploded.
The best thing about Lindholm's arrival is that it has come on the merit of some truly excellent individual play. He is not very often the third-best player on the top line, and from game #1 in Calgary has looked every bit a lethal offensive zone-line driving scoring threat.

Elias Lindholm looks like a player who was picked in the top-five of a very deep NHL draft.

I have always thought of Fox and Evan Bouchard as equals as prospects:
Fantastic offensively, but sub-par skaters, and liabilities in their own zone.

So if you are looking for a PP QB (and only look at the score sheet as a scouting tool), then we might have traded a good one to the Hurricanes. If you are looking for a player that can contribute a 200 ft. game, then no harm, no foul.

Also, side note: Everyone that plays with Gio is better....It should almost be the Flames business model to play D-men with him for 25 games, and trade them for top dollar. Rinse. Repeat.

I hated giving Adam Fox back then, and I hate it even more now.
I think it's still too early to scoff at those were had negative initial reactions.

Lindholm's play makes me like the trade more though. That and the contract extensions.
Hanafin as been fine. Hamilton hasn't been producing much. Ferland, I don't really consider.
Overall, do I like the trade? Yes. But I don't disagree with those who were and are weary.

Treliving definitely sold high on our assets and it seems like Carolina has an Edmonton effect on players. Highly touted going in, after a few seasons of poor development they get moved to better organizations and get back on track. Dumpster diving crappy teams works out well when you can pry out some redeemable players and put them in positions to succeed.

Lol singled out. I guess the 26 thanks (was closer to 40 at one time but they went back and removed after the success Hanafin and Lindholm had early on) I received didn't make me the only one who thought that at the time.

Once the contract situations played out and the news that Fox was not going to sign with us I admitted I was wrong in that thread prior to the season starting.

I didn't like the trade initially because I didn't think Fox should have been in the deal.

Once I read that Treliving had concerns about him signing I started to like the trade more.

Even after hearing Fox say he never said that I still don't mind it because I don't think he signs in Carolina anyways.

My favourite reactions are the ones calling for Treliving's firing.

I am not sure if Lindholm will keep his pace but it he gels so well on that first line.

Still feel the same way about this trade, the fact that Lindholm looks like he may be a 70-80 point guy is just gravy. The Hanifin of the last 15 games definitely looks like a 40+ point dman at a minimum. Losing Fox was what I was most upset about as I still think he will be a top 4 dman in the NHL who puts up points. I think he is Rasmus with better offensive skills. But the trade is a pretty clear win even if Fox becomes a top 4 dman, as he was unlikely to sign with the Flames anyway and I doubt they would have got more than the Erixon package for him anyway (two 2nds).

So I think the Flames still win the trade going away if you replace Fox with two 2nd round picks as the likely end result of the Fox asset. If Lindholm keeps this up it is a franchise altering trade, especially with the contract he is signed to.

I was not a fan at all initially. I had seen Lindholm play in spurts but had no idea he was as good as he has been so far this year. No problem to admit I was was wrong, glad actually.

Then I said this, so I guess I am as irrational as any other fan who wants to see their team win I am just happy the Flames clearly won a big player for player trade for the first time in a long time.

I think it's clear Lindholm has taken a massive step forward from last season, even without having seen that much of him.

If he had played like this last year, we'd remember it.

As for the deal in general and Fox in particular, i see it as the old "you gave to give value to get value" thing.

There's a salesman saying that the price is right when it hurts to pay it but you still want to pay it.

I think the reaction should be an eye opener for a lot of people on how they overrate their own players. Hamilton was by far the most overrated player on the team. Sure he put up points but the eye test wasn't good. I think we are seeing it again this year with some members saying Tkachuk>Gaudreau just because Tkachuk is the younger shinier new player (i love Tkachuk but i dont believe he is above Gaudreau).

Lindholm was bounced around the Carolina line up a lot. Obviously meant to find some chemsitry with any other Carolina fws. I think the second he shared ice with Johnny and Monny here, Peters really didn't have to think at all about the top line. It was done already. That was and still is strong instant chemistry.

Sucks for Neal though, really screwed with things in his world.

Hanifin being 2nd pairing and being able to play as well as he is without Gio just provides this team with as much diversity as bringing Lindholm in. Hamoinc/Hanifin look more like a 1b paring than a 2nd pairng.

End of the day, the trade, love it or hate it from the beginning did precisely what Trelving wanted it to do, shake up the locker room and stabilize it. Not to mention the coach has really helped things too. All in all I think "the most overrated GM in Flames history" really hit the nail on the head with his off season moves.
