I don't agree with Kylington. At this point, he still needs to prove himself a lot more to become a protected player.

Forwards: Gaudreau, Monahan, Lindholm, Tkachuk (3 more spots)
Defense: Hanifin, Valimaki, Andersson(?)

I think this is as far as the list should be finalized today. For example, I like Backlund now, but do I like a 32 year old Backlund with 3 years left on his contract? I am not sure yet.

It's kinda weird having Vegas and Arizona in different divisions. But on the bright side it allows them to move Arizona to any number of better destinations without too much fuss. Houston, Kansas City and *ahem* Quebec City come to mind.

Those divisions look so much better than what we've got now. Soothes my OCD.

Not a huge fan of double-barreled sports team names like Sea Lions. Hopefully they go with something a little more innovative.

Here I was thinking ‘well they probably have a shallow farm system”. But then I looked it up. They have plenty of talent.

Houston maybe but Quebec City won't be getting an NHL franchise in the next decade. At least

PS, The Coyotes will be playing out of a new East Valley arena before The Flames even break ground.

So, yeah, one of those guys will get exposed (or they'll have to go 4F/4D).
 |
Too many forwards exposed for 4F 4D. I'd say make a deal to protect what D you really need so you can have all the forwards covered.

Which NHLer can the Flames acquire or sign that lives in Seattle during the offseason and would make a feel good hometown boy story if Seattle selects him in the expansion draft even if he is UFA?

I am also quite happy that James Neal doesn't have a NMC. It would suck if he doesn't work out and has to be one of the protected players.

Derek Ryan is from Spokane. Is that close enough?

I had no idea, still not sure if true but he was pretty damn adamant they already had gear lined up and ready.

Arizona and Vegas seem like they could and should be natural rivals.
But I can think of no better option in terms of a simple realignment.

The guy from "Lids" does not have insider information.

As for acquiring players from around that area that we can then leave unprotected?

Sea Lions is an easy way to lose a Franchise in short order. Poor name. I gues 10 years down the road they could just cut it down to Lions and make the seal face aggro or something.
