Wow more then half of those were iffy penalty calls at best, this is nitpicking of the highest order by a fan not a journalist. If you go back and go through the game with a fine tooth comb, I'm sure you can find a dozen of the same nitpicking plays that the Oilers were guilty of and weren't called. I guess you want a NBA McDavid rule where you put a gold helmet on McDavid and if any one breathes on him the play stops and a penalty is given. If you want the NHL refs to start calling that stuff on McDavid then you have to accept that they're going to call the same level against the Oilers. And with the league's 4th worst penalty kill, I doubt you want to get into that battle. I wonder Staples, was that video made by the Oilers propaganda department and sent to you?

I'm not convinced the refs don't still hold a grudge against Calgary over Wideman...but videos like this are the best thing for us. This staples "explosive" video just is an attempt to show-up the refs. And we all know who is behind it.

This gives the refs someone new to hate and hopefully they forget about the flames.

The Refs had a valid grudge against Wideman/The Flames. Its still up in the air and regardless of my own personal opinion I can understand them being upset about the entire affair.

But this video? It reminds me of the Sharks and Canucks from almost a decade ago. They demand every tiny little infraction to be called for a powerplay because their abilities 5-on-5 were atrocious and their only hope was special teams.

And the NHL has been trending that way, but I hope it stops.

Special Teams are important, but they shouldnt be the 'Be-all and end-all.'

It would be interesting to get some context to see if the number of penalties per game has increased or not. Also, it would be nice to know which team draws the most penalties.

EDIT: found the stat for which team draws the most penalties. Oilers are 20th.

Wow, that video is embarrassing even for Coiler fans. There was maybe one penalty in there - the high stick on McDavid that he snapped his head back on. Of course, that could have been (and likely was) an embellishment. Why embellishment you ask? Well, two seconds later there was the very obvious dive by McDavid where his feet somehow magically go straight out in front of him on what the naive or idiotic think is a hook or trip.

For Staples to give that video any credibility is ludicrous, but we shouldn't be surprised by it.

Maybe the Identity Line can pick up the slack for McDavid and continue on their torrid pace of... nothing. A very good representation of the Coilers Identity for sure.
