The team as a whole is playing well and should conservatively have 2 or 3 more wins if it weren't for goaltending.

The team is 2 games above .500. I don't see how you can just let the playoffs slide away from you.

Serious question- does Drouin speak English? The post game interview on the official flames website was all in French. Maybe just a MTL media session, wanted to hear his comments on the Backlund incident.

At least now there's incontrovertible proof that Smith is garbage. While his earlier starts certainly supported it, this was the straw that broke the camels back.

Goaltending was always the x-factor for this team this year; hopefully Rittich can run with it.

things fell apart for the whole team as rittich was getting starts. even when things 'fell apart for him' he still finished the season with better stats than what smith has today, and still finished with quality starts 55%+ quality starts, more than what smith put up last season.

rittich actually almost literally cannot be worse than smith this season, but if he falters again, then you look to make a trade.

it's on bt for pinning this season's hopes on a smith who already had started to play poorly last year before he got injured, and for never finding a long term, quality solution in net since he's been here.

Not sure why the fan 960 guys keep saying one bad goal. The first was almost as bad as the third.

Price was excellent. Some say he was good, not great. But that's because Carey Price makes it look easy. Kipper had the same effect. He'd be the reason the team won, and yet he made it looks simple. Price didn't need to make 10-bell saves. He was always in excellent position and was able to see through screens and anticipate plays. All game long I kept thinking how lucky the Habs are to have Price, and how awesome it would be if the Flames' had a goalie like him.
Flames with Carey Price are top 3 in the league. Whatever it takes make it happen. The salary can work.

Honestly, Peters has been a breath of fresh air and he has grown on me but he has to be questioned about continuing to start Smith when it is pretty obvious he is struggling badly

There are way better goalies than mental midget Price. That and we would be in cap hell forever.

We managed to make a lot of Montreal fans happy this evening. When they scored it seemed like half the dome were Habs fans. This plus the chronically poor performance of Smith seemed to play on our team accuracy and luck...2 posts that I recall. In spite of outshooting Montreal 45 to 22, we couldn't seem to get the puck past Price.

My interest in attending games with Smith in the net is getting to an all time low. Tonight we walked out of the dome at about 5 minutes to go, we were so disgusted with Smith's last goal.

I hope they give the starting goalie to Rittich as soon as possible.

Because most of them can't ever say a bad thing about someone that is associated with the Flames. Pretty sad. Smith has sucked, there's no beating around the bush. They need to trying to give him the benefit of the doubt.

I feel that would be trading goalies of about the same skill set right now...although Price is better at positioning. I don't see the salary working either.

If a deal like that would happen, it would just reaffirm to me that Tre is still not on top of the goal tending situation.

I disagree. Mikes Smiths five hole has ALWAYS been his biggest weakness. Thats been the way since he was in Tampa.

Well at least one good thing from tonight is that Mikes Dmiyhs didn't even let in the worst goal of the nite. Go watch the Canuck highlights. holy.

There was a shot from the point mid-way through the 3rd. Smith acted like it was totally unexpected, flailed with his arms and then flopped on his belly. I was watching the game from a bar (in Montreal) and yelled WTF ARE YOU DOING? That’s sums up the season. How can one be surprised with that awful putrid 3rd goal when there’s adventures like that every period. Apologies for not remembering more details, I needed a few drinks to get over that game.

How many other goalies in 2018 end up on their bellies flailing around on a regular basis? NONE! Smith - good competitor, better than Elliot (?) but done done done.

If someone could find a gif of that shot I’m describing it will put an end to anyone defending Smith. He cannot be trusted.

EDIT: watching highlights lowlights on YouTube. Shot described above was at 9:49 to go int the 3rd.
Hrudey called it a ‘wonderful reactionary save’ (there was no screen and it was a wrist shot from 40 ft out).
