I really enjoy watching Rasmus play. I like his instincts and IMO has been the best Flames rookie, and starting to widen the gap between himself and the others.
When the Flames are down a goal, the pairings are he and Hanifin and Gio and Brodie it seems. He's going to have to start getting some time with the second PP unit.

And given that he's a right shot they should work him in for those one timers, loved that in the Montreal game. Actually it was the only thing I liked in the Montreal game.
But he and Valimaki had a rough night together again ... I do think a lot of it is on his partner though.

From your write up, Peters:
Quote:
“We’re learning how to manage the puck, taking some of the risk out of our game, and if we continue to do that, we can have a good team by the time it’s all said and done.”
|
Peters tonight: “We didn’t become high risk to generate chances”

I am going to have to watch that pairing a little more closely.
Andersson and Gio with the plays of the game tonight, hustle and skill.

Yet he played well when he was on the ice. I think he needs shelter minutes and I'm 100% on board with keeping him off the 1st pairing.
Andersson is playing oh so damn well with Gio, Hamonic and Hanifin are quiet but rock steady together, and Brodie can just focus on improving his game without the pressure of the spotlight on him.

I think the emergence of Hamonic/Hanifin will mean a little less ice time for Brodie, but that's a good thing, not a punishment.
No coincidence that Brodie's been better in the last three games.

Andersson led all defensemen in even strength ice time.

I don't understand the people who don't see how valuable Hamonic is to the team..
They are probably blinded by the high 1st rd pick we lost because of him but he is the first guy I re-sign out of the 3 pending UFA dmen.

I said it in the PGT thread and I'll say it again here...
Lindholm is INCREDIBLE! Watching him play, seeing the smoothness of skating, always in the play, both ends of the ice... Such a treat to watch!

In all fairness...he played really bad last year. This year is much better.

Good write up Bingo.
After suffering through the Pens debacle in person, I've convinced myself to keep my power dry on this team until 20 go, with two exceptions. The PP and Sam Bennett.
The PP has to be better. 23rd at 15.1% just isn't good enough. I still think they want for a big body right handed forward to create some jam plays. The current makeup of PP1 lacks a heavy shot for the perimeter passing they have been trying.
Lots has been made about Sam Bennett's shooting percentage last year and him being unlucky/snakebitten. Posting about fancy stats on a game by game basis only shows his relative value to the team on the ice. To this point in the season, he is bang on his career average of 10%. He turns the puck over too much to deserve any PP time at all. Look at the PP in the first last night. On three consecutive attempts at a zone entry, he turned the pick over at the blue line twice and on the one time he gained the zone fell down in the corner and turned it over again. I don't think he's a 4th liner, but doesn't have a place in the top 6.

I guess you just don’t like Bennett and that’s your call
He drew two penalties, he won many board battles, almost single handedly tied the game with five minutes to go. Put begosian into a rage with a clean hit.
Not sure what more you need.

AC can you put together a Bennett montage of all his posts and crossbars and disallowed goals and "almost" assists? I feel like he should have 10 points but instead has 3.
(Just for this season)

And just for clarity ...
I'm not using relative numbers I'm using out right numbers in case there's any confusion. His counts are what they are, and they do add up game to game for a season as total counts and not relative to any other player.
They are on ice numbers so the same counts would be given to all Calgary players on the ice at the time.
Additionally it wasn't his shooting percentage in question. It was his on ice shooting percentage. When you think of it, it's another level of luck because not only does the player need to be unlucky but everyone he plays with too. His percentages last year were less than an NHL fourth line average, which wasn't sustainable.
This year his on ice shooting percentage is 8.11% which is good for 7th on the team behind the top line and the top pairing.
Last year he was 5.66%, with only Brouwer and Frolik behind him.
Anyway some clarity on the terms.

Bingo, I want be super clear, that when I post about Bennett, I'm not picking on you or your posts.
Part of the hangup with Sam is I think most of us expect(ed) him to be able drive a line. That hasn't been the case.
All of the posts in support of him are generally pointing to other factors, except Sam, as reasons for his lack of production, such as his linemates, relative position in the lineup, bad luck, etc.
