Didn't seem like three seconds, and if it was, why the #### didn't they blow it when it was stuck in the mesh, rather than when they are halfway down the ice with the puck.
I’m guessing they will say they realized it was three seconds at some later point, perhaps initially thinking it was in the net.
Just a horrible call and while almost all penalties are somewhat subjective this just reeks of one of the referees panicking and blowing his whistle. Could easily have cost the game as the Flames undoubtedly were about to score.
I believe that bad calls balance out but this one is just inexplicable.
We need a homer broadcast. I can't stand watching this stuff anymore.
I don't care about Johnny Friggin Goodrow, his stick, what he had for dinner last night, or what his favorite colour is. I don't want to hear the hot takes about how good every team the leafs play against are, because they all suck and we are way better. I don't care about their loser rookies that aren't as good as Marner or Matthews and I want them to go away.
I work hard all day and I just want to come home and hear about Leaf hockey.
Holy Crap, what a bubble these whackos live in. I guess having the Leafa be front and centre of TSN, SN, CBC (tv radio and website) and having them play 7 ET on the dot every Saturday regardless of if they're even in Toronto for the last 50 years gives them a sense of unearned superiority. How much content on one team can you stomach, every little thing Kasperi Kapanen does is basically national sports news.

A friend of my, who remains nameless, said we should have 25-30% more Refs employed by the NHL. When they make bad calls they get sat for an extended period of time. With all the video, the offside calls, the whistles when the puck is visible, officiating can be one of the most aggravating parts of the game.

Thing is, it was a national broadcast. With 2 Canadian teams. Why would Leafs fans think they should concentrate purely on Toronto? Maybe they're used to regional broadcasts or something, but they kinda sorta should talk about both teams. Sorry Leafs fans.
Well, he is pretty great. Not quite Johnny level yet though. But Marner is a fantastic playmaker. They are slightly different imo, I can't see Marner dangling like JG did on that one play tonight. He sits back a bit more and makes great passes to set plays up. I'd take either one on my team.
Fans and Leafs are going crazy thinking they scored...horn going off
And for some reason the ref blows the whistle...but not until the Flames are at center ice with the puck and an empty net.
Could have been the greatest misplay of ALL TIME! they robbed us
Faceoff afterwards is at center ice...if the puck was frozen on the back of the net then the faceoff is just outside the blue
all is well that ends well though...just a shame, Flames played a near perfect road game. Deserved the SO
The greatest misplay of all time in the NHL I am aware of is :
As horrible as it is, in the sense that the Oilers benefitted, and as awesome as a Flames 5 on 1 empty netter or whatever may have been... this is, objectively, where the bar is set for misplays, as far as I know .

Flames played great, just like against Nashville/Colorado/Boston. Makes me (and all of us) wonder why they don't play like that all the time.
There was lots of support in the defensive zone and the Leafs had nothing going on for 55 minutes of that game -- I haven't watched them much but I thought they were amazing (even without Matthews).
The call on Gio was absurd. A couple of good efforts strung together -- hopefully another one tomorrow night in Buffalo.

You only have to look at front page of TSN or how much Sportsdesk is dedicated to the Leafs to know that they are used to being catered to. I don't think we (people in Western cities) can understand the dynamic in Toronto. We make fun of Americans for not knowing much about Canada or any countries outside of their border but a lot of Torontonians aren't particularly interested in what happens outside their city as it's all about Toronto. There aren't a lot of NHL fans in Toronto just lots of Leafs fans and a team like the Calgary Flames may as well be the Phoenix Coyotes for all they care as no Toronto, no care.

That ATL was great. So salty and sad. But the same time stuff gets said around here after losses. There was plenty of opposing team ATL material from CP this past week, so let's not get all high and mighty around here...
Ah screw it, it was awesome!! I'm just so happy Frolik got that empty net goal to give the entire arena the finger. Blow a whistle because the Leafs were celebrating like dummies and the refs got confused? Jesus, I honestly thought the Flames were destined to lose after that early whistle. There would have for sure been a quality ATL report on the Leafs site full of CP quotes, that's for sure.
Also interesting when reading the Leafs PGT just how much they dislike Babcock. I wasn't expecting that. They sure are ready to run the guy out of town only 1/2 way through his contract. I don't really dislike the Leafs like I do other teams and don't mind if they have success. But you'd think we had some huge rivalry with them based on what their fans wrote about the Flames. Makes the win that much sweeter.

Their complaints sound a lot like the GG complaints. Boring, uncreative hockey. No in game adjustments. The team isn't "ready to play". Leans on vets too much, especially Hyman. No emotion.
