Brodie was a dog turd tonight and it's weird to pretend he wasnt. I dont know how he didn't have any giveaways; I can recall at least three occasions where he made a bad pass and the canadians gained possession.
Ryan didn't look like an nhler today, but neither did Monahan.
Valimaki had his worst game so far and hanifin was pretty terrible.

Just catching up. Why was Rittich starting? Not complaining, just curious.

Terrible game but have to stay positive.
5-4 is decent considering 6 of 9 have been on the road.

When is Brodie gone? Ffs at least bench him for a game. This has been going on far too long.

Because he stood on his head in New York.

The OOT was very friendly which helps mitigate such a poor performance slightly. At the end of the night, we’re still 3rd in the division, 1 point back of 1st.

Wow, as per usual, gotta love Tkachuk's post-game comments. It's amazing how well he understand the games, and he's fully aware of how the team needs to improve.
Definitely captain material.

In all fairness:
when your road trip is New York and Montreal...
And it's early in the season...
And you have three rookies...
And you have a young team...
Guys probably been partying lots. Probably a few hungover.

In all fairness, that's no excuse for poor play. These guys are being paid millions. They need to be ready to play, every single night.

Because he's been much better than Smith so far this season.

If so...
I wonder at what point the captain steps in and puts them in their place. Some of these vets are running out of time to win. I could only imagine how Gio/Smith would feel missing the playoffs again cause some young guys want to drink in the "big citys". 2 pts is 2 pts

There’s enough embarrassing posts in this thread already, we don’t need an ATL.
Here’s my thoughts:
1. First line was bad. Really bad. Monahan is still great. Not tonight, but people need to relax. I’ve seen two people call for him to be scratched and one person demoted him to the third line. Everyone has bad games, even McDavid and Crosby have bad games. Shocking, I know, but it’s true.
2. Thank God for Lindholm because Noah Hanifin isn’t doing much to get me excited. That trade could look a lot worse so far. This might be where I agree with some of the negativity. He’s been extremely average so far, I don’t see much signs of anything there. Tonight in particular he was horrible. He needs to turn it around big time.
3. I don’t get the Neal hate. He’s been pretty much exactly as advertised. Once pucks start going in for him everyone will relax. He’s getting chances, he’s too good to not heat up eventually.
4. What does Derek Ryan add to the power play? Try Sam Bennett there. He’s earned a shot. I’d also like to see Dube back on that line.
5. Rittich with another solid outing. Starting to inspire a bit of confidence in our goaltending. Hopefully he pushes Smith to rebound.
Burn that tape and move on to Pittsburgh. And hey, Edmonton, Anaheim, and the Dodgers all lost tonight so it wasn’t all bad.

Once again, our power play let’s us down. How many times have we said that over the last two years?
-Take Gio off the first pp. How many times do we have to watch a patented Gio windup, then hear the glass rattle behind the net? Replace with Andersson, who actually appears to be the only one timer option (calling James Neal?????)
- The drop pass. Oh my god. Half the powerplay is spent with Gio collecting the puck behind the net, strolling out to our blue line, then dropping it back. It didn’t work last year, it’s not working this year, and it won’t work next year. Other teams aren’t stupid, they are countering it.
- 2nd powerplay. Even worse. Ryan, as warmed by Canes fans, might be Bill Peters illigetimate son. He’s soft, weak, and has limited offensive acumen. 3 minutes of pp time? Tf?
- Bennett has deserved powerplay time. He’s one of the only players who has given a f the last few games.
- Czarnik was brought in for his powerplay skills. Give him a shot instead of Lindholm on the top unit, it can’t hurt at this point.
The rest of the game speaks for itself. Awful effort from 90 percent of the skaters. Rittich was fantastic again, shame it was wasted.

Gio shoots too much. His passing is so inaccurate. His weak wristers keep getting blocked.... I prefer him on the second unit

Tkachuk mentions that the players discussed their poor play before this game. He looks genuinely angry with the teams effort.
