Icon46 Canucks ban video games on the road

TSN Radio Vancouver
@TSN1040
Horvat on Fortnite: Yeah, that's definitely a no-go on the road. No more Fortnite. No more bringing video games on the road. It's strictly team meals, team dinners, and hanging out with the guys. So we put an end to that #canucks

TSN Radio Vancouver @TSN1040
More Horvat: In my opinion, there's better ways to spend time on the road whether it's handing with the guys in the room, or going to a movie with the guys. There's a lot of cool cities we visit and to be cooped up in your room all night, playing Fornite, is a waste of your time

I feel like this lends credence to the idea that it was Juolevi with the rumoured video game addiction...

I see that they want to really work on that team bonding.

Ridiculous. Everything in moderation...unless you play for the Canucks.

Not necessarily. Both Dahlen and Pettersson say they play. Considering how massive the game is, I'd be shocked if any of the guys under 30 haven't played it to some extent (including Horvat). Juolevi also isn't even with the Canucks (though Dahlen isn't either), so that's a bit of a stretch.

Playing it at home and not on the road would be a form of moderation....

I thought Marek confirmed that it wasn't?

Sounds like this is actually their attempt at enforced moderation. Clearly the guys will play it at home. So banning it on the road ensures some moderation.

That is ridiculous. What someone does on their own personal time away from work should be up to them. If a player is playing video games to the point that it's affecting his play then scratch him. If he doesn't want to change then get rid of him.

They're paid salary, so they are technically always working, especially when the team is paying for you to travel to do your job.

It's why that guy in Tampa got cut for being out of shape at the start of the year even though he did that on "his time".

Can't disagree with what Horvat is saying, but odd that there's a team rule about it.

As if it's not torture enough to play for those crappy fans, wear that stupid jersey, travel the distances they travel and play knowing that the cup isn't likely to happen with the group of guys you're with now... we're also going to nanny you.

...why aren't you picking up that pen?

Seems like a good move to me. Road trips were always the most fun part of being on sports teams for me growing up. I couldn't imagine staying in my room and playing video games and missing out on all the shenanigans that I got in to.

Anyways fortnite addictions are pathetic and if you can't tear yourself away from a video game and spend time with your teammates then I wouldn't want you on my team.

Sounds like Juolevi made the team!

I would argue he showed up unfit for duty. Which would get you fired from most jobs.

I think its a good policy, especially if it came from the players themselves. Shows good leadership in the room and a desire to focus on building their identity as a team.

I can see people getting upset about this stuff, but how many hours of Fortnite you think a guy like Sidney Crosby plays?
