Good size. Not as offense oriented as one would like but I think this is just buying an extra farm year contractually for a similar player to Kulak.

Brad has quietly been adding Russians to our system for several years now - I like it

Russia is too big a country with too many hockey players for the Flames to simply ignore. Do I want them spending high picks on Russians, not really. Do I want them to grab a kid like Zavgorodny somewhere between the 5th and 7th each year? Hell yeah.

I'd much rather they do that than waste a pick on a lummox in the hopes that he becomes Chara.

Kulak may be somewhat overpaid but I wouldn't say his salary is outrageous.

Good for Kulak, but I feel we should have gotten more from Montreal for him. We had a few organizational needs (draft picks, back up goaltending) that neither of the players coming back address.

Kulak alone doesn't get it done, but maybe bundled with other assets.

What's that saying about the team that gives up the best player loses the trade? Kulak was the best player in this transaction.

Anyway, wish Kulak the best of luck on his new team. He wasn't spectacular, but I liked his play last year as a #6D. Knew when to jump in on a rush, and got back into position promptly. There was a potential ceiling of a middle pairing D in his future.

Kulak was on waiver twice and was not picked up, as mentioned before, not a player that Tre could get anything much for unless you add to it.

Nice to see them bringing in an AHL ringer for the Heat D core.

I think the Heat might actually be a playoff team this year with the younger guys a year older and some of the other vets they brought in.

Especially if Rasmus plays significant time down there again.

Taormina has the highest points/game for a defensemen in the AHL playing over 20 games last season. He was third in points/game the season prior as well, right there with a few high potential NHL defensemen in Christian Djoos and Brandon Montour.

What's the deal with this guy to not make that next jump? Too one dimensional, too small?
