I would have no problem starting game 1 with dube in Bennett's spot. If Bennett doesn't stand out this preseason then start dube. If that competition doesn't spark Bennett then nothing will.

Agreed. Yeah people give him every excuse in the world and some certainly are legit. But when push comes to shove the proof is in the pudding and he's simply not producing.

So you want to take the one player who needs confidence after having it ripped away by Gully and bench him? I can't wait for Bennett to break out and silence the critics.

First of all we have to see how he translates to real NHL competition. Second of all he has to be considerably better than established players because you don't want him treading water on the 4th line when he could be developing playing big minutes in the AHL. If he makes the Flames better I don't see why you wouldn't keep him on the roster but that remains to be seen.

Does Dube make the team?

I believe Dillon Dubé could become our Zach Parise (upside) type player, or at the very least our very own J.T. Miller (downside)
Gaudreau - Dubé - Neal
Tkachuk - Monahan - Czarnik
Frolik - Backlund - Lindholm
Bennett - Ryan - Jankowski

If the regular season started tomorrow, Dube would be in the opening day roster. The other contenders for a spot in the line-up, Foo and Mangiapane, must be hating how good Dube is playing. Foo and Mangiapane have been ok, but they need to be more than ok to make the team.
Right now I would put Dube on the starting line-up and Hathaway (maybe Peluso) as the extra forwards. Lazar and the rest will be sent down.

He will for sure start the year on the top line. (In the AHL).

It's only three pre-season games but Dube is looking like much more than a bottom 6 contributor at this point. Personally, I would like to see him dominate the AHL for 2-3 months with Foo and Mangiapane as an alternative to him being slotted into a depth role on the Flames out of camp.

For me, when a player shows that he is ready to play at a certain level, then their development is best served by playing at that level. Learning how to be more dominant at an inferior level of game doesn’t necessarily help him in the long run. There will still be an adjustment going from the AHL to the NHL, no matter how long a player has played in the A.
The question is if he is ready now to play NHL minutes. So far the answer looks like a yes, but the real test comes in the next couple of weeks.

Guys, Dube is not unseating Monahan as the 1C nor is Bennett being traded to make room for him.
I don't necessarily blame people for buzzing this much over a prospect that has shown well so far in preseason, but let's not get carried away.
There is lots of depth on this team now and Dube has like 6 pro games under his belt. I'm also really excited about what he can do, but he has tons of work to do if he is to crack the opening day roster.

Yeah, Treliving and Peters were the only ones to meet him face to face to pitch their team. Great move by management.

I agree with what you state here except for the fourth line sentiment. I think Treliving made comments saying gone are the days when the fourth line plays 8 minutes a night with tough guys/grinders filling those spots. He said the speed of the game and schedule require more minutes from everyone in order to sustain a level of play for the season.
I don’t think they are going to have Ryan or Jankowski end up only playing 8 mins a game. So you can develop young players on lower lines
If they are physically, mentally ready for NHL.

That’s very optimistic. At worst Dube is a career AHLer. At best? Hard to say, but Parise is a very lofty expectation at this point IMO. These are not NHL games, if Dube shines the way he has the last couple of games but against real NHL competition, then maybe I’d start daydreaming about that possibility.

I'm assuming Lazar is here on the advice from a ####ty coach that isn't here anymore? Did he play in China?

Was wondering why he chose the Flames! Him and Johnny could wear out defenses taking turns skating like that. He looks like he has some untapped potential and could benefit being around Johnny!

Lol..... Haven't flames fans learned to take the conservative approach with prospects by now?
I'm high on Dube since watching him in last camp, and it's been exciting/encouraging to see him succeed in Prospect games so far this camp. Let's see how he does in real pre-season games, against NHL caliber players before trying to figure out who he might displace.
If one is to assume jankowski, bennett, frolik, ryan, czarnik, peluso (seems like the obvious 13th forward) are locked in to the bottom half of the forward roster, that leaves dube battling lazar, hathaway, foo, mangiapane, klimchuk, rychel (other?!) for the 12th spot.
If it's even remotely close or a tie between dube and one of these guys, I would still bet on Dube starting in the AHL. Rationale being, do you want Dube starting his pro career playing top line, top PP, PK time as the Heat's #1C, or playing 4th line time in the NHL with no special teams exposure?
I'm cheering for him, but it seems like a win-win scenario regardless of how it all plays out.
