I don't know if you want Tkachuk as a captain. He clearly toes the line right now with whats legal/not legal but I feel like if you placed a C on him he'd reel his game back in.

I love the kid's toughness, but honestly, playing through all those injuries sounds more stupid than admirable. I can't believe they didn't shut him down.

Is that so?

Its almost laughable when fans discuss who should be the C or wear the A on the team. What insider information do you have that Tkachuk has better/more leadership qualities than Monahan?

Monahan has had the A on his uniform since he was 20 and was captain of his junior team.

Tkachuk has never worn a letter in junior or pro.

I love Tkachuk as much as the next guy but good hockey player doesn't automatically equal good leader.

That's pretty impressive that he was scoring at the rate he did being that badly banged up.
How does this rate on the RGI? He doesn't really take penalties, and doesn't hit a lot, but a guy who'll play thru that, and still be reasonably effective is no pillow case in my books.

While I agree that he should have been shut down, how do you know that he didn’t keep this hidden from the staff? I’m sure he has a lot of pride and he more than likely knew that his team needed him putting the puck in the net if they had any shot at making the playoffs. As a pro hockey player he probably didn’t want to let his team down and figured he’d just push through the pain.
Sure, in the big picture he should have taken himself out and got this taken care of earlier but id imagine he really wanted to keep contributing and help his team get into the playoffs

Pay the guy $6.5M a year and he's downplaying serious injuries and not being open with the training staff?
Beyond stupid if you ask me.

possible, but then it's stupid on his behalf. The kid is 23 and has a long time left in his career, hiding injuries from the team and further ruining his wrists doesn't help anybody.

Easy to say behind a keyboard.
Can you imagine the pressure of being a #1 centre in the NHL as a 23 year old? Can't just judge this situation on the surface. Besides, the entire culture of pro sports is to 'tough it out' ans 'give it your all'.

Most important thing now is he's 100% healthy and ready to go. It's likely we still haven't seen the best of Sean Monahan yet.

Francis proved to be

 a) seriously bereft of any serious organization connections

And

b). seriously bereft of observation and critical thinking skills

To the point that I would question why anyone would ever listen or read a word he had to say about the flames or hockey ever again.

Clueless doesn't even begin to describe it.

sure. I'm just saying that nobody wants to see him struggle in a few years because he hid injuries and made everything worse. It wasn't meant as a vile comment on my part, I love Monahan. I'd just prefer if they didn't have to Darth Vader him after the season, that's all.

I don't know how pro athletes do it. If I was Monahan and going through that type of injury and pain, and then I read that Francis article, I would have knocked him out. With my bad hand.
How could you not be FURIOUS at someone for writing that while you can't even hold a pencil in your hand?

 What a doosh.

Meh, I'd almost be willing to bet that Francis is a running joke in locker rooms.

I think that the solution for most professional athletes is simply to avoid the local media. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Monahan was completely unaware of Francis's wild speculations.

He broke his everything's and wanted to keep working. The world lacks this drive. He also wanted to be part of the solution. Best and worst part of this story is the fact he wasn't the problem with tis team, and the healthy ones were.

Sometimes being a fans it is easy to jump to conclusions. Monahan deserves some respect going forward.
I agree with the poster that said he should have been shut down, we could have tried some other players on the top line, or a call up. I think most people would understand if they knew it was serious stuff. I know Monahan went to bat for the team and playoffs but having players playing injured is not the way to go!

Unfortunately without S.M I believe last years coaching group might have played Brouwer on the top line.

Just watched Monahan’s Post game vid from last night and noticed his left wrist is pretty swollen - is that normally related to his type of wrist surgery or maybe swollen over the course of the first 15 games? Hope he’s not fighting through more injuries!
At the 55 second mark you should see it:
