Looks like Colorado will be drafting Jack Hughes in 2019. They have the Sens 2019 First Round Pick

for the Sharks to not have to give up any of Meier, Hertl, Donskoy, Braun or Dillon AND not have to take Ryan is an absolute steal.

What I find really funny about this deal is hearing the source kissass Dreger say that the prospects coming back are good and it was a good trade for the Sens. Pretty obvious his source for breaking this story was a Sens guy. Then you have Button in a separate video saying that the Sens got robbed. I'm with Button - quantity doesn't equal quality. Even if the Sens were rebuilding, you'd think they'd get back an a grade prospect and a player who can step in right now with very good potential. This team could not have screwed this one up, and they did. Hard to see much light at the end of the tunnel for Ottawa, and that's unfortunate because it's still a Canadian franchise.

If Ottawa is going scorched earth. thats the kind of trade that helps get things rolling in two years. Move stone out at the deadline for a quality pick and prospect, possibly Duchene as well as I don't see any way he's going to want to be the anchor there long term.
I actually think they're gonna tear this thing down to not even the foundation but right to the bone. Ottawa or whatever city they'll be in in 4 years might have a chance to get excited about their up and coming team.
Man I cannot believe that the loss of Bryan Murray meant the loss of everything Senators.

Ottawa easily. They want Melnyk gone so badly I fear they may actually not support the team what so ever. Even if it means losing the team.

You can't be serious? Ottawa doesn't spend to the cap anyways and even if they did what are they going to do with it? Acquiring cap space is a lot easier to do than acquiring a two time norris winning defense man in the prime of his career.

Erik Karlsson cost the Sharks less than Adam Larsson cost the Oilers

If Karlsson isn't in SJ a year from now, is it a good deal? If they win a cup, yeah. But what if they don't?

haha these ottawa fan call-ins are government worker dweebs.
"Great trade"
"Removes locker room distraction"
"pass reigns to heart and soul guys like Duchane and Andersson"
LOL - what a soul-suck of a town.
Ahaha - the radio hosts are ripping their own fans' takes on the trade!

I think they have to. The timing just sucks - if they could somehow undo that Duchene deal, they'd be fine. But dealing that 1st right before the wheels flew off like that ... brutal.

Was wondering the same. If this turns out to be for one year of Karlsson, what is the measure of success for SJ? A conference final?

Its surreal the level of dillusion and willful blindness of these callers. I assume that most have just don't have it in them to even pick up the phone. Man...they might draw like 8000 fans per game this year.
They're going to force Melynk to sell the team at a terrible price because the franchise is going to be so unprofitable!

Pretty mad that the Pacific division in the last week have added Max Pacioretty and Erik Karlsson. The Atlantic only gets weaker while the Pacific becomes even stronger. It’s going to be tough to make noise even if we make the playoffs. Crossing my fingers that Karlsson only stays the one year and bolts to the Eastern Conference later.

They traded spare parts for Karlsson. They can trade him at the trade deadline, or at the draft, for certainly more than they got themselves if it comes to that.
Sharks can trade from a position of strength rather than a position of weakness like the Sens.
It's a pure win no matter what happens. The chance of losing him outright to free agency is worth the trade and the positives, remove Karlsson and they only lost a little bit of easily replaceable depth. They will easily see value back from selling Karlsson jerseys

Is it possible that this trade is bad for both sides?? Ottawa gets nothing that could be blue-chip. Best case scenario in 5 years, they may have some depth from their magic beans and a decent middle 6 in Balcers and Tierney San Jose has one shot to win the cup...this year. Between this trade and the Kane deal, they have gutted their draft picks for the next 3 years. There is no denying that their back end can now be compared to the Pronger/Niedermayer backend that Anaheim sported for their cup run. However, next year, can they afford to pay: Burns, Kane, Couture, Vlassic, Couture, Hertl and the rest of their core going forward? One big injury over the entire season, and this could be a huge wash. This is about as all-in when it comes to going for the cup.

The Pacific will be a dogfight this year. Ottawa rivaling Edmonton for worst managed team now.
