Yup, it's too bad this match turned into a bit of a circus, but the better player on this day won the match and full kudos to Naomi.

crowd really sucks but not surprising, they've been force fed 'seeing history' by ESPN for years.

I have to agree. Over the last few years tennis umps have gotten a bit full of themselves like they're important or something.
Coaching happens all the time and Ramos could have addressed it quietly to Serena during one of the changeovers if he really though it was a problem. Serena was probably going to lose anyways so he totally destroyed Osaka's moment.

Especially because it’s the final of a Major, not some WTA 500 first round match. Let the Women play.

It's not easy for Serena. The whole 'history in the making' is getting to Serena. ESPN absolutely milks it for it's viewers proclaming Serena the best ever. The commentators are cheerleaders. The crowd wants it so much they are booing the trophy presentation. It even went as far as reporters today wishing Serena well to even and then eventually break the record of that bigoted homophobe. This year she's lost the final at the french and now the final in New York. She broke down today because she really wanted it and the weight is on her shoulders. The longer it goes that's she one behind more of a toll it takes. And she's 37.

"And Serena at all times plays with class..."
Who does the WTA think its fooling? Perhaps if she did handle herself with class at all times, she might have gotten more slack.

You can probably thank Layhani-Kyrgios fiasco for that. I'd be willing to bet the umpires were all cautioned to be more umpire and less concerned friend after that.
Also, Serena and that embarrassing crowd ruined Osaka's moment, not the umpire. It wasn't his fault that Serena broke three rules.

Just caught the highlights of that match. What a gong show.
Serena's an amazing talent, and a super competitor, but that latter quality has a tendency to override her class. She's gotten a lot better with that over the years, but yikes - this was a bad show on her part.
Poor Naomi. Hopefully Serena buys her a magnum of the good stuff.
