Before the Flames signed Neal, I was wary because of stuff I'd read out of Pittsburgh - that his act wears thin and the team was glad to see the back of him. But looking at the Flames the last couple seasons, I can see how someone with a cocky attitude is a good fit in this roster. A veteran who will hurl a trash can once in a while might be just what we need.

I like the thought of Neal with Johnny and Mony. They need a guy who will play a little dirty. Slash a wrist, elbow to the face, knee to the head of anyone who gets too close to Johnny.

Unfortunately, it's become a reality in the NHL, that you need a guy who is willing to fight back with dirty plays when you have a guy like Johnny on the ice.

The next time someone slashes Johnny's wrist, Neal will hopefully take care of it. Between Neal and Tkachuk in our top 6, it's going to get scrappy.

I think between Ryan, Tkachuck and Neal, there are three real competitors on 3 different lines. Guys that help pickup the tempo of their linemates. Most exciting thing of this year for me, shouldn't see too many guys bailing on plays. If we can just get 60 minutes of good compeitive hockey per game, I'll be super happy.

With Smith, Tkachuk and Neal, our FU corsi must be pretty high. I like it. Add Gio and Backlund for veteran leadership (while subtracting Brouwer and Hamilton) and I like the makeup of this group.

It's improved, but it's still among the lowest in the league IMO. Two more Tkachuks and another Neal would be fantastic.

I would also like to see more sandpaper from Hamonic and Stone. And, well, from pretty much everyone else as well.

Yes, and the more "badly" he wins, the better.

Yeah, I hate to be a pedant, but it's "bad-ly," James.

Actually, because “want” in this situation is an emotional state, and it is speech (and not formal written English), “bad” is considered standard.

Neal is what this particular roster has been missing. Looking forward to this fresh season.

If he said ‘badly’ wouldn’t that mean the method by which he wins is bad? Like saying a want to win crappily? I am pretty sure ‘bad’ is the correct form to use in this case...

I would add Bennett to that list. He's shown he won't back down to anybody and he plays with that edge

I'm always excited for pre-season Bennett. Pre-season Bennett is an animal

Just watched some highlight vids of Neal and man can he shoot . Picks corners, 5 hole and has a great stick for deflections.

I love his release and how sneaky it is.

My favourite was him destroying Seguin last year and that little puke turtles. I hope to see him do this to several players this year.

Anyway, just pumped to have Neal here .

Yeah Friedman alluded to that and I suppose there's a reason he is on his 5th team. He might not be everyone's cup of tea.

But as you say, this team needs something different. Not only do they need guys that can play, but something about the make up of the team seemed less than ideal. Reading some of the post trade Hamilton trash talk, and I start to wonder if the problem was really a guy not fitting in or the team not being cohesive.

In any case, the unpopular guys were traded or released. The nice guy coach was turfed. Hoping to see a very motivated team this year. If Neal rubs some guys the wrong way, I hope it is put aside for the sake of winning.

Neal and Mike Smith are very good friends, and given how popular Smith seems to be in the room I wonder if this bodes well for Neal's own fit on the team. From the outside looking in he certainly seems like precisely the right kind of persona the Flames have been missing for a few years now.
