since most drivers just follow the guy ahead of them i really don't equate this test with 'good driver'.

a study recently revealed that most drivers consider themselves above average, which i find interesting because obviously most of them are not.

100%. I'm very surprised, as there were about half a dozen questions where I had no really strong idea and just made my best guess. Anyway, I wouldn't say I'm a good driver, even if I've got driving book-smarts.

I got 19/20= 95%

This is the one that got me:

13. A pedestrian crossing at the corner has the right-of-way: (Select one)
a. At marked crosswalks only
b. At marked or unmarked crosswalks
c. Only at intersections controlled by signals, lights, or stop signs

But I have to say, and I hate to bring up this argument- just because you are a safe driver (as in, what this test is asking), does not mean you are a good driver. There could be many good drivers who have no clue about what the speed limit is on a secondary highway if it is not marked, but at the same time could manouvre through the stickiest of situations to save themselves and their car. And one final point: everyone thinks they are a good driver!

b. Police officer
c. Stop sign
d. Flashing red light

Stupid test. I'd appeal this one in a final exam.
Hear, hear. I'm not waiting until every possible car within sight has passed through the intersection...

I got 95%. The one that I "slipped" up on was the condition that makes highways most slippery.

I thought it would be during a heavy rainstorm. My wife took the test moments later - she got 95% too - and she got this particular question right.

90%... got the highway condition and the railroad question. I sort of question the validity of both of those, since a lot of large trucks have to stop at uncontrolled railroad junctions and heavy rainfalls aren't exactly safe driving conditions either. Though I did know initial rain after dry spells are deceptively slippery.

6. Highways are most slippery: (Select one)
a. During a heavy rainstorm
b. During a light rain
c. Just when it starts to rain after a dry spell

The theory behind this question is that, after an extended dry spell, you will have oil build up in the porous surface of the roadway which will immediately be brought to the surface and make the road very slippery.

The rain will gradually wash this away.

95%... didn't read the pedestrian question closely enough.

That's the only one I got wrong as well.

Then i thought about it and remembered back to my driver training days nearly 20 years ago. The road is most slippery at the beginning of a rain as that is the time when the oils in the road are brought to the surface. These oils run off/breakdown as the rain continues leaving a less slick road.

I quickly rediscovered this fact in the summer. I was flying down the hill on my bike, it had just started to drizzle. Don't hit a corner at speed when it has just started raining. Needless to say, I got this question right.

70% But I;m sorry, this proves nothing, I'll trust a road test over a written test anyday.
