Same with 2015 - where it wasn't supposed to be that strong after McDavid and Eichel at the time of the draft.

But now you have:

Marner
Hanifin
Provorov
Werenski
Rantanen
DeBrusk
Barzal
Connor
Chabot
Boeser
Konecny
Beauvillier
Fischer
Aho
Carlo
Dunn

Already all making big impacts on their team's roster.

Wanted him here for a long time like a few others. Decent trade given Shinkaruks chances were dwindling.

I don't believe Shinkaruk was ever going to play another game with the Flames, so the cost was nothing.

If Rychel plays a single game (and he will), the trade is a win.

I actually liked Shinkaruk on the top line in his cup of coffee which is probably the one bit of consolation i can give for habs fans. He looked like he could play in the top six briefly. Then He sort of just fell off a cliff after not staying up with the club the following season. I don't know what happened. Thought he was on the way up and was imminent to surpass Granlund at the nhl level.

Both players sign minimum contracts with their new teams almost immediately. Strange.

There's little doubt that the Habs will give him some games, and he will probably get some points. But that doesn't mean that he is an NHLer on a good team, or that he would ever have cracked the Flames' lineup.

Trying to find any reasoning in what Bergevin is doing is impossible. How is he still employed there is beyond me. If that was Yotes, then yes, but its a freaking Habs he is ruining and its been going on for some time. This trade probably not gonna hurt them as some other moves he has done before though.

Montreal has less scoring ability then the Star Wars lightsaber kid from a few years back so this move makes sense for them. If Hunter can make the team and generate some points it a good deal for him.

I thought that 2014's deal was that it lacked top end talent, not that it wasn't very deep. Like even the top tier forwards (Reinhart, Draisaitl, Bennett) were all thought of as having a career projection topping out at good 2nd liners. But there was still a lot of quality middle tier to be had.

But it is always hard to remember because the hype distorts expectations so much in the run up to the draft. The earlier in the year projections all seem to turn into "OMG! So much amazing talent! Get excited about these can't miss future stars!". So it is hard to delineate the more realistic draft previews from the shameless hype show.

This is the reason I want to pump the brakes on Foo who also looked pretty good in a late season cup of coffee. Shinkaruk looked pretty good coming on the top line late in the throwaway 2016 season which made the trwde oook very positive for the Flames.

It was his poor camp that likely lead to signing Versteeg after training camp that year.

I'd be thrilled if he was half as good as Warren.

No relation to Robert Reichel. Kerby's dad is Warren Rychel, who won a cup with the Avs in 1996.

I like this trade. Kerby can be a solid addition to the 4th line. He doesn't mind getting in the dirty areas, he goes to the net, nice shot. The only thing I worry about is his skating.

Well, I hope he is still willing and able when his opponent actually drops the gloves. Not a smart play when you fight after a clean hit and the other guy doesn't even want to go with you. I expect he made his team shorthanded there. Hope he was just nervous trying to do too much to stay up and/or be noticed.

edit: typo

It's a pre-season game where he is standing up for one of the team's top players. No problem with the fight personally.

Fair, I didn't know it was preseason. And well Kadri, I just don't like anyway.
