If you ever wondered, “what are these guys like when they’re not triggering libs?” I watched this last night and found it pretty interesting. Little bit heavy on patting themselves on the back in a few places, but I still found it worth watching:
Also, while I was going down a deep dark Rubin hole (phrasing?) I watched this. I thought he was pretty good in it and a few of the people pretty embarrassing. I thought the main girl was on the right track, but stumbled pretty hard. If people want to get in the ring with these guys, we need to do better than these people did. And we can.
Also, not sure if this is the full video or just the clip with him and the one girl, the whole video is worth watching (but loooooong). Please ignore the horrible click-bait title of the video meant to attract the lowest common denominator.

lol the girl takes the mic because she wants a voice, and then asks to be paid when Rubin asks her to describe a situation where she has been oppressed?
I've seen people ask to be paid on twitter and tumblr, but I didn't think they did it in person.
Yeah I can't get through that. "I'm not angry"... sure you're not.
The thing that always strikes me about those videos, though, is the chanting slogans overtop of people as if their repetition made them profound or true. Do people not find that sort of thing incredibly... creepy? It sure is for me.

They're not doing it to convince other people, but to fill their own hearts with passion. Religious fervour has been with us forever, and looks like it's not going away anytime soon.

Yeah, both those moments sent a shivver of embarrassment up my spine. As I said, I liked where the girl was going with it, but when challenged you’ve got to have more than chants and “pay me first” to rise up to it.
In the full video, there are some decent back and forths that go on. That said, it’s a seasoned public speaker going against college students that are passionate, but still finding their voice, and i’d like to think it was a learning moment for her.
The chanters and bottle shakers though, I dunno, I doubt they learned anything.

Exactly. The “regressive left” has such enormous power and foresight that it can create a letter that will unintentionally promote an event featuring one of its biggest targets: Jordan Peterson will be the one to profit off of their ineptitude.
Meanwhile, in Congress and on Fox News... As ever, the equivalency between the extreme poles lacks any viable comparison of scale and reach.

Well that was painful.
Just because you are loud doesn’t mean you are right.
Watching these campus debates drives me insane. I haven’t seen 1 yet that coasted from beginning to end in a mature manner. Either someone on stage gets their back up a bit and throws out some dumb insults, or more often than not some stupid students bang their chest and demand everyone be treated fairly! (Except those they disagree with). Just so much BS in all of them. Rubin gives her what I saw as a free open stage to say her peace, and she gets cocky, demands money (wtf!?!!), and casually insults the guys family. And I would be that whole $40 she went home feeling great about herself.

cracked is a comedy site, but they do have some interesting opinion pieces, even though it usually doesn't have much depth.
Fellow named Mark Hill comments on Peterson
"At a glance, he's doing the same "Political correctness is destroying society!" bit that for years has been the hallmark of right-wing content aimed at young white males. But there is something very, very different about Peterson. The sooner we understand that, the better."
it's not inaccurate but a lot of these opinion pieces treat helping young white men as dangerous or a bad thing. like oooooooooh if you help young white men who are struggling they'll rise up and dominate everyone again. I don't think that is possible anymore.
Peterson's teachings help everyone. Some of the young men in my family like his lectures, and if white men happen to take to it more, then good.

for someone like myself who has little knowledge on the matter. was the author pretty accurate?
Cracked is primarily a comedy site, but they produce a lot of great serious content too. David Wong in particular writes some of the most intelligent and insightful pieces. His "Robin Williams, and why funny people kill themselves" from a few years back was spot on.
David Wong also famously wrote this article in 2012:
Which contains a lot of Petersonesque ideas, specifically the approach to self improvement of taking responsibility for yourself. It has the highest view count of any article on the website.
This interview is insane. The reasoning is that people who attend Peterson's talk might attack the surrounding areas. Like the Arab Fesitival, which is tomorrow!, might be at risk.

The recent Sam Harris podcast with Ian Bremmer is one of his better ones. Bremmer is at the cutting edge of the conversation about globalism, its socioeconomic impact, and the future of automation and populism. His characterization of the issue does not fall along tidy left or right, liberal or conservative lines.
Cracked went down the tubes about a year ago, they sold it to a company that turned them into a glorified click bait factory and nearly all their talented staff left or were let go.

This was good. It just shows that there is good and bad in everything, winners and losers. Immigration is great, globalization is great but there are losers and that has to be addressed.
The latest show with Coleman Hughes about race is incredible. Talks about race they way it should be talked about.

Globalization is an old process. It is not a new phenomenon. It has been happening in Alberta for at least 200 years. In order parts of the world it has been happening for closer to 5 centuries.
Our ability to have these conversations hasn’t changed. It’s just that some people are upset they have to get a little better at having them.
Sorry, this isn't just about the words people use. There are zealots and extremists out there who furiously reject any challenges to their orthodoxy, regardless of the science and regardless of how the challenge is worded.
Gender clinics are reporting dramatic upswings in the number of girls (but not boys) reporting gender dysphoria, often clustered in social circles. Researchers suggesting this could be in part a social phenomenon have been attacked and, as is always the case these days, disavowed and abandoned by their schools and publishers.
Dr. Littman describes the condition experienced by these girls as “rapid-onset gender dysphoria" (ROGD). It develops during or soon after puberty and mainly affects girls with no previous signs of childhood gender dysphoria . Many, however, do have a history of mental illness, and some are on the autism spectrum. The most controversial element of Dr. Littman's research is her claim that ROGD spreads via social and peer contagion. While the incidence of gender dysphoria in the general population is quite low – less than 1 per cent – it’s not uncommon for two or more girls in the same friendship group – or even half of them – to begin to identify as transgender....
Under intense pressure, the school and the scientific journal promptly responded by cutting Dr. Littman off at the knees. PLOS One, the journal that peer-reviewed and published the study, now says it will review it – a step that is virtually unheard of. Brown University withdrew the press release promoting the paper from its website. The dean of the school of public health issued an open statement citing concerns that the study’s conclusions “could be used to discredit efforts to support transgender youth and invalidate the perspectives of members of the transgender community.”
Translation: If this research is politically inconvenient then we won’t support it...
- Globe and Mail
The Economist has a more thorough article on the same research:
The reaction to publication of the study has gone beyond what might be expected in a regular academic dispute. Brown removed from its website a press release advertising her research, noting that PLOS ONE, the journal in which the study was published, was seeking "further expert assessment." In a later statement, the university said: "There is an added obligation for vigilance in research design and analysis any time there are implications for the the health of the communities at the centre of research and study."
But as the Economist points out, there are health implications to treating all teens who self-identify as another gender as transgendered, and undertaking medical transitions that cannot be undone.
