How can I get rid of Magpies?

Here in Tokyo there vast numbers of very large and very loud crows.
Some ornithological estimates from 2008 say there are approximately 150,000 crows in Tokyo. I would assume there are a lot more now. https://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/07/w...a/07crows.html

Crows are very attracted to mayonnaise (no idea why) and it is used to bait traps.
I have found they really dislike laser pointers being directed at them and they do not tend to return once the light has been directed at them.
Not sure if it would work with Canadian crows or magpies.

The magpies are giant dicks and pick on every other species. But watching them outflank the rabbits is fascinating. They strategically position at various positions to systematically harass and herd the rabbits out of the area.

No dead bodies though, at least that I’ve ever seen.

They were being especially annoying yesterday in our yard. Squawking in the back yard all afternoon and tormenting a hare in the front yard in the evening. The hare was trying to eat and two magpies were harassing it and preventing it from doing so. Magpies are a$$holes.

There was a post last night that appeared more like the instruction manual for the sniper at the end of "Full Metal Jacket" than hints for getting rid of magpies. It was fairly intense.

I too wish I had quoted it. The part about after you have your sightlines set up to make sure you are set up back far enough so people won't see the barrel sticking out your window stuck with me. I've never really read anything like that.

I think he said 5 feet from the window with the screen taken down. I never would’ve thought that too.

Also “Magpies will have Magpie funeral. 50 of them will line up on your fence. resist the urge to shoot any of them at the time. One shot, one kill”

Riding in this morning I saw a hawk munching on the carcass of a magpie in the middle of a grassy field. I stopped to give him a high five for the good work but he decided to find somewhere more private. He flew off, low to the ground and another magpie took a swipe at him! He brushed it off and landed on a tree to finish his breakfast.


We need more hawks like him. Maybe if we start a hawk breeding program we can get rid of the magpie problem.
