Perhaps this is going to be the crux of our disagreement. I don't think that was a good movie. I do accept a lot of people liked it though.

In seriousness though, not everything needs a movie. This is a great story, but it would be a boring movie.
Hell, if they can make a movie about that dude who had to saw off his own arm with a convenience store pocket knife, I'm sure they can make this into a riveting movie.

I think it could be a good movie but I always have a hard time getting into movies that I am so familiar with the real life story.

The world also didn’t watch him do that live.

I would love to read a well-written book on the rescue - something that gives an in depth look at the people involved and the plans.

Luckily there were white people involved in the actual event so that filmmakers could latch onto them to be their protagonists. I wonder who will be the exotic Thai female love interest that will be the third person in their love triangle?

Honest question: Have you seen The Tunnel?

I'd have agreed a few years ago, but if you want to get excited about the kind of content that comes out of other countries The Tunnel and Train to Busan are really really good examples of what's being done elsewhere.

The book that 127 hours was based on is fantastic.

There are plenty of good foreign films. I'm just saying it's a better bet that Hollywood makes a well produced movie than other countries.

Not that long ago I'd totally agree. The reason I mentioned those two were that they legitimately tilted my own opinion of 'if the US did it, it'd be better'. If you haven't watched those two, I'd suggest giving one a try. I'm interested to see if you tilt a little bit after seeing one of them. The Tunnel being a good example of what this kind of story could be, and Train to Busan being a whole different kind of disaster.

The actors obviously play a huge roll for US films having the upper hand, but I almost prefer big-names away from movies like these.

Ok, yes, there are outliers. I'm not saying every US movie is better than every foreign movie. I'm saying in general, over the course of movies made, the chance that a US movie is more professionally done than a foreign movie, is higher. Like, everything. Lighting, tone, cinematography. I'll take the US easily as my safe bet.

Update on the boys

https://www.cbc.ca/news/world/thaila...date-1.4741912

Quote:
The youth soccer teammates rescued from a flooded cave in Thailand lost weight during their 18-day ordeal, but had water while trapped and are in good health, a health official said Wednesday.

Three of the 12 boys had "minor pneumonia" and all are being kept behind a glass barrier in hospital to separate them from visitors, including their parents
The boys, aged 11 to 16 at the time they became trapped, lost weight during their 18-day ordeal, but drank water that had been dripping in the cave and are in good health, said Thongchai Lertwilairatanapong, a public health inspector, at a news conference at the hospital in Chiang Rai city. He spoke a day after the four remaining trapped boys were rescued.

The players and their coach, who were rescued over three days, "took care of themselves well in the cave," Thongchai said.

All the boys can now eat normal food and walk around.

The average weight loss was 4.4 pounds for those with known information, Thongchai said

A video interview with the father and wife of the sole individual, Saman Kunan, who did not survive the ordeal.

God damn, there's something in my eyes.

If they make the movie with all white kids, they should call it "Same Same But Different".
