That feels high, has the team normally gotten to this point? I don’t recall too many arbitration cases in the past.

This means they have a buyout window again, correct?

Because the #Flames have salary arbitration cases on the books, they'll get access to the second buyout window in August regardless of whether any make it to the hearing room.

Is this any indication where the Hanifin negotiations might be at? Both parties close? Negotiating? Alpine Drive? Big Place?

Fan 960 was mentioning that the Jets and Flames lead in arb cases this year. They both have 5 that have filed.

Hanifin was not arbitration eligible. So this probably is not any indication of where the negotiations between Hanifin and the Flames may be.

Also means no offer sheet risk, right?
Not that any would get offer sheeted, though maybe Jankowski could have.

Not really. Hanifin is not eligible for salary arbitration all 5 rfa's who were eligible for it selected it. I am not worried, it just might take longer to get Hanifin's contract delt with but I am sure he will be there for camp.

Correct. Also means all of these players will get signed.
Lindholm will probably get locked up long term prior to his hearing I bet, though the other 4 will all be inexpensive contracts so it shouldn't be much concern if any of them get to arbitration.

I think you wait one more year till you buy out Brouwer. There really is no need this year, there should be enough cap space. If Brouwer sucks, make him the 13th forward and he'll probably waive his NTC.
You wait till next year to buy him out, you save $1.5 million in cap space for 2020-2021.

What is the amount beyond which the Flames can walk away from the aribitration amount? Didn't Chicago do that with Niemi?

Player elected Arbitration Settlements of 1 year and greater than $4,222,941, Club can walk away from the awarded salary, making the player a UFA [CBA 12.10(a)]
Player elected Arbitration Settlements of 2 years and greater than $4,222,941, Club can walk away from the second (2nd) year of the awarded salary, making the player a UFA at the end of year 1 [CBA 12.10(b)]

Flames definitely do not want to go to arbitration with Lindholm as that relationship is just beginning. I assume all of these get done in advance

So, you don't think there's value in getting a player that isn't working out off of the roster? If Brouwer is playing for the Flames this fall, it will make the team worse. Is it worth a year of not playing the best possible roster just to get cap space in 2020-2021?

I would assume that Lindholm and Janks get done early, Hathaway will probably take a fairly low offfer. Maybe let Kulak and Rittich go through the process
Side note, Vegas does not want Karlsson to get to the arbitration table.
