I don't know if this guy can really play top 6 mins. Sure this team needs to be tough to play against but they also need to score to win.

He must be asking for too much. No one is giving him $4M/yr. The Ducks dumped him to the Oilers just to get rid of him. I wouldn't mind a 2 year deal at around $2.5 but pass otherwise.

Maroon is too slow. I hope he doesn't sign with the Flames.

If we can snag him for only a 2 year deal, I'd love it.

He wouldn't be playing in our top 6, he'd be a 3rd liner for us behind Gaudreau and Tkachuk as LW.

I think this is the holdup. Maroon hoping the Blues can fit him in.

Jeremy Rutherford @jprutherford
According to @CapFriendly, the Blues have $8.4 million in cap space. They still have to sign 5 RFAs (Fabbri, Jaskin, Sundqvist, Edmundson, Schmaltz).

Could they still be in on a winger like Maroon? Army says it's possible, but they'd have to get creative. #stlblues

Man I just don't know about chasing a guy who's heart is somewhere else. Maybe he will accept less term in hopes of signing with the Blues in a couple of years.

If he’s only interested in coming to the flames for the money and was really hoping for St Louis I’m worried about his compete level. No longer want

So from what I can tell ~ the Flames put forth a better contract than the Devils but Maroon is waiting to see if his hometown team can squeeze him in? That's fair; also looks like Tre is content with what he's offered and if Maroon is to end up in St.Louis its on a discount. Let's see what happens...

Still worried about term and AAV. The longer it drags out seems like a bad sign imo.

Hoping Tre's attention is elsewhere trying to land a higher impact player in a good trade.

well, his ex wife? and child live in STL iirc, so you can understand why he's trying to get back there...

I don't think this news is worthy of questioning his willingness to play for Calgary.

Yeah and I'm totally fine with that as he's got to do what's best for him and his family. If it's that important to him he can accept a lower offer to sign with the Blues. I just wouldn't want to give up a lot of term to a guy that would rather be somewhere else.

It really is interesting. I don’t recall at any times in recent memory where the Flames said they had an outstanding offer out to a guy at their July 1 presser, who hasn’t taken it. It’s just not how the Flames do business, but are willing to in this case.

Now, on the large assumption that it is Maroon, a few things.
A) if he really wants to be in St. L, and now the ROR thing done, assuming the Blues want him, I again wonder if a sign and trade can be worked on for the Boues to send back a roster player the other way as a salary release to get Maroon into their plans on budget. Or, he would have to take a massively huge cut over what the Flames are offering, to go to StL (ie offered 3x 3 here, St L can only manage 1x2) , and that’s the sticking point.

B) If he liked the Oilers as much as he said he did, it would be tough for him to sign here with the main rival. Never mind he’d probably have 16 voice mails from Lowe today telling him not to sign in Calgary, because that’s how petty Lowe is.

You want to give the player the time and respect to make up thier mind for such a career move, but as EE says above, if his heart really isn’t into coming here, for whatever reason, you don’t give the guy more then a few days to make a decision because if he can’t by then, he’s not going to be committed 100% on a 3+ year deal.

Hmmm, just thinking here, how about you send us Fabbri and then you don’t have to worry about running out of cap for Maroon.

I don't think the numbers are right but if the $4M number is correct that some are speculating? Then pay $6M for a younger Neal.

Neal is older.

Neal is about to turn 31, Maroon just turned 30.

plus, it's not as easy as just saying "sign Neal instead" because the player has to want to come here. If Neal has no interest in coming to the Flames, it won't matter. It's like if the Flames offered 13 mil per to Tavares, the player goes where the player wants.

I am just curious what the AAV would be for Maroon. Other than that, I don't worry about how he will fit on the Flames.

What I don't think, however, is that he is going to be some kind of a deterrent for the Flames. He is a rough and tumble guy, but I don't think people are afraid of fighting him.

What he does bring is a nice set of hands and a good brain. He can work with top players. He is a strong complimentary player - nothing wrong with that. He also goes to the net hard and makes life for the opposing goalies miserable. That's a GLARING hole for the Flames. Between him and Tkachuk, that opposing net would become a whole lot unfriendlier.

Again, for me it all comes down to term and dollars, but from a purely 'how does he fit' standpoint, I think he fits extremely well.
