How Neymar wasn’t booked for simulation is amazing

Faith in VAR is building. So pleased to see that garbage play acting not being rewarded. Should've booked him as well.

Ha, that was great. Hopefully Neymar feels like an idiot going for the dive and giving up on the play. He was still in great position to take a shot.

I think Neymar cut holes in his sock during half time.

Brazil got their much needed goal and on balance of play it is very deserved. Still, tough not to feel for Costa Rica who defended admirably
I do think Brazil would be better off playing Costa or Coutinho in Neymar’s place. Neymar was better today, but still tries to do way too much on his own

That was the right result, from a pretty choppy game. I was with CRC until about midway through the second half, and they lost me completely with the time-wasting and the double-flop before the end. Don't see Brazil as a likely champion based on today's effort though.
Also loving the VAR. I'm of the view that in international tournaments at least, video of each game should be reviewed at the end, and dives should be awarded yellow cards after the fact if refs missed them in game.

I’m not proud of that performance at all but Costa and Firmino give hope for the rest of the tournament. Neymar is not at 100% and he had another hard game and his emotions were way too high. He will need to be a lot better. Paulinho should just never start again, he really gives nothing to the team currently. Coutinho has stepped up but the entire team will have to take a step if they want to have a chance at winning the tournament. Felt like Brazil were a bit unlucky but also way too tense, hopefully scoring a couple at the end will get them going.
One of the most frustrating games I’ve watched, glad they got that second goal for the goal differential.

I hope we see a day where the kinds of dive we saw from Neymar would result in a straight red card. To me that's the easiest way to get it out of the game, retroactive punishment isn't good enough. Would have been hilarious had they drawn or lost and Neymar had to answer why he went went full Olympics instead of shooting on a half empty net.

It wasn’t a half empty net, he needed to cut back and put it on his right. He lost a little balance and tried getting the PK. Not as aggregious as you are making it seem.

That was disappointing from Costa Rica, a team that beat Uruguay 3-1 in the last tournament. They have really gone downhill with all the delay tactics, diving and were too defensive, I hate to see that kind of play rewarded.
The penalty call by the VAR was correct, Neymar does get a lot of abuse though. There is constant kicking and stamping going on.
